I've already read the error memory several times, and each time the same error code appears: "engine coolant sensor G62 open short to +" or something similar. I did some research and found that the increased fuel consumption is likely due to this sensor. It seems to be sending incorrect values to the engine control unit, making it believe the engine is still cold, which causes it to inject more fuel.

Now I'm looking for the sensor.

The G62 sensor is obviously not located in the expansion tank. Why would you measure the temperature at such a location? The temperature is measured where the coolant leaves the engine, which makes perfect sense. It's located on the right side of the cylinder head, above and slightly forward of the tandem pump – this applies not only to the ARL but also to all other engines. Don't confuse it with the similarly shaped G81 sensor, which measures fuel temperature.

Checking the G62 sensor: With a cold engine, start the engine and read out parameter group (PG) 7. The temperature should increase. If the sensor is faulty, it will consistently display -5.4 degrees Celsius.
Alternatively, the sensor can be removed, and the internal resistance can be checked between the two pins located on the round side of the connector. At an ambient temperature of hopefully around 20°C, this resistance should be approximately between 2000 and 2500 ohms. If that is the case, check the cables.

Alternatively, the preheating time needs to be checked; when it's faulty, it consistently takes around 20 seconds for each start.

This morning, I checked the calibration blocks.

In block 1, which displays the water temperature, it showed 12°C. Then I started the engine and the temperature rose. However, the error didn't reappear after I cleared it.
After I had turned off the engine for about 3 hours, the error reappeared.

"Engine Coolant Sensor: Open circuit or short circuit to positive terminal G62" (or something similar).

It seems like the error code reappears every time the engine cools down again.

I'm going to go to the Volkswagen dealership tomorrow and buy the sensor; I think it should cost around 20 euros. Then I'll replace it and hope that solves the problem.

Or do you know of anything better?

I've also disconnected the plug before, and there was no sign of corrosion.
