Hi everyone,

I drive a Golf V with a 105 hp engine, which is the BKC engine. I have a question about it: Can anyone tell me where the intercooler is located on this engine? On the ATD or ALH engines in the Fabia and Golf IV, the intercooler is located behind the small air intake on the passenger side.

best regards

Hannes.

Hi,

Commonly used are:

To the left, in front of the wheel arch (Golf 3, Ibiza 6K).
- On the right side, in front of the wheel arch (Volkswagen Golf 4).
- in the center, in front of the water cooler (Ibiza 6L with 160 horsepower).

I don't know about the Golf V, but this should be straightforward. Just follow the thick air intake hoses coming from the turbocharger, and you should find the intercooler.

Alternatively, you can look at the front of the car and pay particular attention to the areas mentioned.

Best regards,

Jan.

It's not as trivial as it seems, because I can't find any LLK (Low-Temperature Coolant) lines in the places I'm looking. You also don't easily see thick hoses on a Golf V. It's possible that the cooler is located behind the normal water cooler in the middle.

Best regards,

Not behind it, but in front of it!

In the Vectra Turbo gasoline engine, the intercooler is located between the air conditioning condenser and the water radiator.

'Well, it's a really interesting design, but in the summer, it's going to have even more turbo lag than it already does...'

Possibly the same applies to the G5?

Hi gremlin,

Regarding golf, I assume it's the same with the new Octavia. They call it a "full-surface module," and it houses the climate control unit, intercooler, water cooler, and oil cooler in a row, which is supposed to save money in case of damage (accident). There's quite a bit of information about this in the MTZ magazine, which focuses on the new Octavia. It was probably an issue from the beginning of the year.

Thank you, finally someone with facts. It's probably the same as in the Octavia. Thanks.

... As I mentioned earlier, it's located in the center, in front of the water cooler. That wasn't a criticism, but a fact.
Since the G5 I saw didn't have any climate control, there couldn't have been a climate cooler installed in it.
