Hello.
Is it possible to read the mileage on a 1999 Seat Ibiza with an AHU engine from somewhere?
I have this strange feeling that the mileage is higher than what's being displayed. Is this information, for example, also stored in the engine control unit?

How do I proceed? I know I need to use VCDS and select the engine control unit, but what happens next?

Not with VCDS (formerly VAG-COM), but with specialized hardware and software, or a tuner can do it as well. If you know which chip it is inside the control unit (ECU), you can also read it out using a clip and an EEPROM programmer. Then, find the relevant section, convert it, and then you'll know .

or simply look for evidence of problems caused by the likely fraudulent previous owner or dealer; this is most likely to be found in the service booklet, on the timing belt cover (next change at mileage xxxxxxxx), on the recommendation for the next oil change (a card is usually stuck somewhere in the engine compartment), and on the bottom of the B-pillar near the driver's door.
Perhaps there's a record of a workshop that serviced the car. If so, visit the workshop and inquire about the mileage at the last service.
Regarding the possibility that mullemaus mentioned, you can contact Robin (Lampe) from the Passat forum - he is quite knowledgeable about that, and he will surely be happy to help you .
Best regards, Nebelwerfer.

Well, if there were stickers or a service record booklet, I wouldn't be asking.
Well, let's see, the thing isn't even here right now.

Take a close look in the engine compartment, and possibly remove the underbody panel. You might find a small oil change reminder card there, which could show the mileage or the workshop that performed the oil change.

@mullemaus:
Do you perhaps have any further information on that?

It doesn't matter. There are no more readily available tools that can help with that.
could (be read via OBD). Therefore, the only option would be to retrieve the information by reading the data via the OBD interface.
select the corresponding memory module using a programming device, which is relevant when purchasing a car.
It is highly unlikely. In addition, this information is not applied consistently.
are and are often missing.
With that, I believe the topic has been sufficiently discussed .
