Technical specifications:

Passat 35i, 1.9 TDI, engine code: 1Z, year of manufacture: 1995.

I have this MAS motherboard here that had other chips installed in the past, and in the process, the traces were damaged by my predecessor. I have now fixed this issue.

Now, I wanted to read out the MSG (Modular Signaling Gateway) using VAG-Com, but I don't want to have to replace the MSG in the car every time.

My question:

Do I need to connect to the L-line of the OBD socket to read the data, since I can't find that pin on the MSG (Modular Service Interface)? I'm not getting a connection even though I've connected the various positive and ground pins, and PIN 61 as the K-line. Or do I have to physically install the 'bucket' (presumably a device) in the car?

Thank you very much.

Burli.

A plus, a ground, and a K-Line (61) are sufficient.
If communication fails at that point, then there's likely something wrong with the MSTG.
On behalf of.
'A '95 Passat might still be scrap metal (MSA12). Especially if friends are getting rid of theirs.'
I'd like to arrange some cross-border communications. Also, I'm not a fan of that.
Flat ribbon cable between the circuit boards, no movement.

Best regards,
Rudi

Thank you for the quick response.

Which pin do you connect to the positive (+) and which to the ground (GND)?

Have a nice weekend.

Regards,

Burli.
