Hello friend,
I've also been having trouble with a faulty door lock for quite some time.
(Interior light doesn't turn on, double locking mechanism only works after the third attempt, etc.)
No problems since Saturday... But why?
I only just realized today that it might be related to this.
On Friday evening, I sprayed the constantly squeaking door hinges with graphite oil.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Could it actually be a mass problem?

Hello.
I suspect it will happen again. Once a switch starts to fail, the only solution is to replace it.
With VAG Com, you can see how the switch is working.
Three weeks ago, I replaced the door lock mechanism on my Bora (using a standard microswitch that cost 3 euros). At the same time, I had to replace the window lifter arm because one had already broken. Now, there are aluminum versions available for 35 euros.
If you need a visual guide for replacing the switch, please send me a private message.
Good luck!
Rainer.

I've already repaired quite a few of these locks.
I've never actually had a broken microswitch itself, but in all cases, it's been due to cold solder joints on the circuit board, specifically around the connector and at the cable connections leading to the microswitch (latch mechanism). 3B5 AJM

Hello Datsun,
Sure, I'm interested in the instructions. What does 'PM' mean?

@flightmaster: PM stands for private mail - so just send an email to another member.
The lock contains a total of 4 microswitches, one of which is attached to the lock mechanism and reports its position (door open or closed). The other three are arranged on a small circuit board; two of them detect the position of the key (rotated left or right), and one detects the lock state (locked/unlocked).
From various reports, I've learned that either the microswitch on the locking mechanism fails (as with Datsun models) or malfunctions occur due to two cold solder joints on the circuit board (as described by BM). In those cases, the microswitches are usually still functional.
You either have to resolder the circuit board or replace the microswitch on the door latch mechanism. However, VW doesn't sell this microswitch separately, so you'll need to use a commercially available microswitch that is compatible. --------------------------------------------
