Hello everyone, I'm having a problem and I think only the 'experts' on this board can help me.

I bought a Skoda Octavia 1.1, 1.9TDI, 110 hp, ASV engine, first registered 11/2002, with approximately 47000 km. Initially seemed like a bargain, especially since the features also matched.

However, there were now indications that the odometer on the car might have been tampered with. It is a returned lease vehicle, purchased by a dealer, so I cannot even ask the previous owner. The car is spotless, so there are no stickers or other markings to be found. There was no noticeable wear and tear, and everything appeared to be in perfect condition during the test drive (not worn out). I haven't picked up the vehicle yet.

However, I have now received the service booklet with a binder from the dealer (not a Skoda/VW, but still appears definitely serious and has not tried to hide anything so far). Now, in my opinion, the inspection entries are concerning: According to this, there was only one further inspection at an independent workshop, shortly before returning the vehicle to the leasing company, at approximately 43,000 km. An inspection, which was superficially documented at approximately 27,000 km, was undoubtedly documented by the previous company.

In my opinion, there are 3 possible explanations:

1. Everything is fine, the inspections were also recently carried out in the last workshop visit and were simply forgotten to be recorded. Shortly before the vehicle return, the leasing company then tried to rectify this, but failed. In the case of leasing, everyone seems to have been sleeping on their job.

2. The car was maintained terribly (or, in the worst case, not at all, up to 43,000 km), which could then certainly result in the turbocharger failing predictably.

3. The lessee was fully aware that he would drive significantly more kilometers during the contract period than agreed, and therefore never had any service entries recorded and ultimately manipulated the odometer shortly before the final inspection.

I found several older articles using the search function on this topic, in which it was constantly stated that the true overall performance of the vehicle is not easily readable. It is likely possible to read this directly from the control unit (Eeprom) in every case. However, as I learned in another forum yesterday, it should also be possible with the latest versions of VAG-COM (6.xx or even 7.xx). I would consider buying one soon. So, the question is, has anything technical changed since the last thread on this topic here at Dieselschrauber, or is someone here mistaken (and why)?

Since the total mileage recorded by the manufacturer for warranty purposes and other reasons is stored in various control units, and most speedometer adjusters are not professional enough to handle this, I hope to get some tips on how to extract this mileage information from the system. Vehicle also has Xenon (additional control unit) etc.

Further possibilities: For example, I know from Toyota that with the diagnostic tool, certain errors also display the mileage. Can this also be done with vehicles from the VW Group? Can I extract from the on-board computer how many times the 'service reminder' has been reset? Which errors display the mileage? How can I cause such an error without further irreversible damage?

I'd like to have the VIN checked by a specialist at the dealer, but that would only be helpful if the car has ever been serviced by a specialist workshop.

I probably won't get access to the previous TÜV approval either. The options for obtaining approval are now quite diverse. Who else has an idea on how to get to the truth?

Thank you in advance and greetings to everyone from Sven (Happy Easter)
