Hello everyone, I have a problem and I think only the 'experts' on this forum can help me.

I bought a Skoda Octavia 1, with a 1.9 TDI engine, 110 horsepower, ASV motor, first registered in November 2002, and with approximately 47,000 kilometers on the odometer. It initially seemed like a bargain, especially considering the equipment it has.

HaI haven't picked up the vehicle yet.

EThe inspection report, which was even amateurishly altered, at approximately 27,000 km, was undoubtedly added by the previous company.

In my opinion, there are three possible explanations for this.

'Everything is fine; the inspections were carried out at the workshop that was last visited, but it was simply forgotten to be recorded. Just before returning the vehicle and ending the lease, they tried to add it to the record, but failed. Everyone involved in the leasing process just dropped the ball.'

The car has been terribly neglected in terms of maintenance (and likely hasn't had any maintenance at all for a long time, possibly up to 43,000 km), which could lead to the turbocharger failing prematurely.

The lessee was aware that he would be driving significantly more kilometers than agreed upon during the contract period. Consequently, he never had any service entries made and ultimately manipulated the odometer reading shortly before the final inspection.

FOkay, so, has there been any technical progress in this area since the last related thread here on 'Dieselschrauber' forum, or is someone mistaken (who and why)?

Given that the total mileage is stored in various control units by the manufacturer to prevent warranty fraud, etc., and most speedometer adjusters are not professional enough to modify all of these systems, I'm hoping for some tips on how I can extract information about the mileage from the system. The vehicle also has xenon headlights (another control unit), etc.

Here are some other possibilities: For example, I know that Toyota displays the mileage along with certain error codes on their diagnostic tools. Does this also apply to vehicles from the Volkswagen Group? Can I find out how many times the 'service reminder' has been reset by accessing the onboard computer? Which errors display the mileage? How can I trigger such an error without causing any further irreversible damage?
I'm going to have my mechanic look up the chassis number in the VAG system, but that will only be helpful if the car has ever been serviced at a reputable workshop.

I probably won't be able to get access to the previous TÜV inspector either. There are now many different options for inspections. Does anyone else have any ideas on how we can uncover the truth?

Thank you in advance, and greetings to everyone from Sven (Happy Easter).
