Hello Diesel Community!

I'm new here. My name is Micha, I'm from Austria, I'm 28 years old, and I've mostly worked on turbocharged gasoline engines so far.
I hope to find good information here as a new AFN owner; I've already looked through some of it.

A lot has already been written about error 575, and I don't have any questions about it, so I'll refer to existing posts.

My question is as follows:
I bought a Golf 3 AFN, and the previous owner continued to drive it for at least another six months with error code 575 (which is the only error code in the memory). Since then, the car has had zero power. Can this problem continue for a long time and cause further damage? A turbocharger failure would be a particularly bad outcome.

What happens if there's a leak in the pressure range, for example? Does the turbocharger then overspeed, or is the turbocharger protected by the emergency run function?

What is the default position of the wastegate valve, open or closed?

Best regards,
Micha

Best regards,
Michael

The AFN does NOT have a wastegate valve, but rather a VTG. Please read the search/troubleshooting section, as everything is already described very frequently! It's best to do a LOG recording using Vag-Com.

When the system is in emergency mode, the minimum charging pressure is set, resulting in very little boost pressure. Without a VAG-COM diagnostic tool, you're unlikely to get very far here, as my "magic glasses" can't work their magic anymore.

First, you should check if there is actually any vacuum pressure present at the vacuum diaphragm on the turbocharger when the engine is idling, and whether the diaphragm is fully engaging. If that's not the case, the first step should be to check the bellows for the U-pressure system, as well as the functionality and proper operation of the U-pressure sensor and the VTG linkage.

Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for your support and help!

Today, I removed the turbo.
Unfortunately, the turbocharger has failed.
The VTG was completely stuck, and there was nothing that could be done. Furthermore, the exhaust turbine is already corroded. The canister was still in good condition, but that doesn't help me much icon_confused.gif.

Now the question is, should we buy a new or used loader, or should we go straight for a larger one? What do you think?
I would like to get the maximum possible performance out of it, but without modifying any internal components (e.g., pistons). I was thinking about things like injectors, a larger turbocharger, and tuning.

Do you have any tips?

Thank you very much!

Hello again!

While browsing, I came across the turbocharger 038145702G. Does this fit the Golf 3 AFN?
I was thinking of installing 216-size nozzles. What do you think? Is that a good compromise between performance and durability?

Best regards,
Micha
