Hello,

Given that our Skoda partner is leaving us in the rain and a) claims that an MSG update has never provided any fuel efficiency benefits, b) that there are none, and c) that there will be none, I'd like to ask you all:

- Our 2010 Octavia 4x4 1.6 CR-TDI with 77kW is consuming too much fuel. On average, it never goes below 7 liters, despite driving according to the gear indicator, mostly on country roads, no short trips, and usually not exceeding 120-130 km/h on the highway.

"With my 4x4 vehicle equipped with a 1.9 TDI engine and pump nozzle injection system, the same driving profile resulted in an average fuel consumption of 6.5 liters over 200,000 km. I currently drive mine and achieve around 5.5-6.0 liters. However, even with extremely economical driving, I can't get the new one below 7 liters."

Another Skoda partner mentioned that updates might be available and that these could potentially resolve the aforementioned issues.

It may be true that the new one, with its increased weight and smaller engine displacement, might not necessarily need less fuel, but it should still be able to achieve a consumption of under 7 liters per 100km. Especially since it was advertised in the brochure with a fuel consumption of 5.5 L/100km. The usual icon_smile_thumb_up.gif liter increase is acceptable, but I find an extra 1.5 - 2.0 liters for purely rural driving to be too much.

Okay, fuel consumption figures are usually obtained without the climate control system activated! We mostly hear the following excuses from dealers:

- First, observe.
- record mileage and calculate fuel consumption (we have always kept a logbook and calculated the fuel consumption for each trip!).
- First, the engine needs to be broken in (we heard this at around 8,000 km, and he still claims it's not fully broken in at 20,000 km, which I find ridiculous. In my opinion, the engine should be perfectly broken in by 20,000 km!).

Greetings.
George.

Do you have a car scanner?

Then some people might occasionally search offline to see if there's anything "new."

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I would say something is wrong.

Classic issues could include cracked or damaged low-pressure cooling lines (e.g., from being run over by a vehicle), or damage to the coolant hoses caused by rodents. Another possibility is a faulty exhaust system with excessive back pressure.

Best regards, Rainer.

Unfortunately, no, because I'm still using a VAG-COM version that I bought years ago, which works with my old Škoda, but it doesn't work with the new one due to its CAN bus system.

It was more generally about whether you consider updates to be helpful in finding solutions or pointless, and (b) whether there were already any updates available specifically for the new CR engines.

Ultimately, I think another competent dealer will have to assess the situation.

Hello Georg,

"With such new engines, updates can be useful because many issues are often only discovered and fixed after the fact. However, I find it unrealistic and impossible (due to emissions regulations) for the fuel consumption to decrease by a liter per 100km with the original software."
Furthermore, the other drivers using this engine prove that lower fuel consumption isn't magic.

Best regards, Rainer.

hello Rainer,

Thank you for your two statements... Yes, I'm actually ruling out defects in the charge air system because of the full power output. Of course, I can't say anything about back pressure, but wouldn't the differential pressure sensors from the DPF trigger in the exhaust system if there was a problem?

"What frustrates me is that the dealer absolutely refuses to do anything and uses the identical fuel consumption of a Yeti as an argument against it... Sure, it has a different frontal area, but still..."

...it's a differential pressure gauge. If it works like the ones they have here, then the absolute value (within the range) is irrelevant icon_smile.gif.

It seems that the differential pressure sensors from the DPF should actually register something in the exhaust system,
or so it would appear.
No, it only measures the difference between before the DPF and after the DPF, but not to the end of the exhaust pipe. icon_wink.gif

Assuming it has a CAYC engine and is equipped with a 6-speed all-wheel drive system,
It should be a 03L 906 023 FP engine control unit, and there are currently no available listings for that part.
for trading purposes.

However, the 'front scratcher' with 5 gears already has that (then a ...023 AG).

. And what does the cork management pressure sensor system look like?

If the system only uses one differential pressure sensor, it would have to be connected to the stopper via a kind of tubular bypass icon_eek.gif.

If there are two sensors, one will typically output the outside pressure as a reference, while the other will provide absolute values. As long as both values can be viewed separately in the diagnostic data, it is possible to determine whether there is a restriction behind the cork by comparing the "cork" value, *provided* that you have intact comparison data from a similar vehicle.

Okay, so I have two tubes coming out of the filter, which connect to hoses and then to the pressure differential sensor. Since these disappear into the DPF housing from above, I can only assume that they work like all the other differential pressure sensors installed here. An external pressure compensation is unnecessary for this. One could assume a working principle similar to that of a tubular flow meter. I don't know exactly how the installed sensor works precisely. Rainer has one spare; maybe he can take a picture of the contents icon_smile.gif.

Cut differential pressure sensors should not pose a major problem icon_wink.gif.

How about reading some SSP (Social Security Payments) information?
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"z.B. 336" translates to "e.g., 336".

Okay, so...

The differential pressure sensor definitely has two connections, one before and one after the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).
The differential pressure causes a membrane to move within the sensor, and this movement is measured by piezoelectric elements.

Then I found the explanation to be good... why should it be any different?
