Hi,

A brief report on my experience:

Vehicle:
Audi A6 Avant, automatic transmission, 160,000 km mileage.

Problem:
Refilled the empty tank with gasoline (to the brim).
and the vehicle came to a standstill.

After I saw that it was a 2.5 (VP44) engine, I initially didn't want to open the hood, but I ended up trying anyway.
The gasoline was completely drained, and then a mixture of 20% rapeseed oil (for lubrication) and 80% diesel was added.
Relief valve on the VP44 pump removed, return line blocked.
"The system was primed until no more gasoline odor was detectable. Then, the fuel pump control unit was disconnected, and the engine was started for a while, while continuing to draw fuel through the pump."

All 6 injector lines were opened on the nozzle side, rags were wrapped around them, the pump control unit was connected, and the engine was started. During the start, fuel was also drawn in through the return line.
After ensuring that there was no more gasoline smell coming from the nozzles due to fuel leakage, I tightened the locking nuts.

With the G62 spark plug removed, I pre-heated it, briefly started the engine... and there you go - it's running again.
At first, it sputtered a bit, and I heard it "knocking" (due to fuel in the cylinder), but then it ran normally again.

I then let it run for another 10 minutes with the bypass valve removed, and it was constantly sucking fuel out of the pump.
After that, I reinstalled the overflow valve, and took it for a ride. So far, I've driven 30 kilometers without any problems icon_smile.gif.

The good fortune was that the customer, after the engine stopped working, didn't try to restart it, but instead immediately called for help.
Let's see if the pump lasts in the long run.

Greetings.
John.

Long-term, it would have lasted anyway, even without the incident icon_evil.gif.

Yes, they can handle the gasoline.
I've read it a couple of times already.

But Christian... That's just the fuel injection pump.
The rest of the 2.5 TDI is actually completely trouble-free icon_lol.gif.

I was already aware that the fuel pump control unit isn't very robust, but I was surprised that the pump could tolerate fuel with such poor lubricating properties (mechanically) so well.

.

After taking a quick look at the camshafts, I quickly closed the oil filler cap again icon_lol.gif.
