Hello community!
For a few days now, my cat Lysator (3B5 AFN) has been dead. Impact: Initially, there was a faint ringing sound, but then, until yesterday, there was a terrible scraping noise, as if the entire pot was dragging against the bottom, and now there is complete silence... however, the pig is no longer taking sausage from the bread.
I believe my assumption is correct that the catalytic converter has detached (a new one is already on its way), and that it has become clogged with debris and is no longer properly oxidizing... and that it is also preventing the proper passage of exhaust gases, which is preventing the turbo from spooling up, resulting in increased soot emissions, which in turn further clogs the catalytic converter. Is my theory correct? Can my charger also be used now?
Best regards and thank you in advance for your answers...

Hi Alchard,

no icon_exclaim.gif Why would the charger break? It's true that a lower volume of air flows through, and therefore he's also turning it over less...and a piece of the exhaust manifold definitely won't go there icon_wink.gif

However, the backpressure in the exhaust area is significantly higher, which, of course, could theoretically cause the AGR valve to be forced open or exhaust gases to enter the compressor housing... of course, this is purely theoretical icon_confused.gif

When dealing with something like this (where the catalyst isn't immediately effective), I always remove the catalyst (or at least partially disable it) and verschandeln it out. If the crumbs are blown into the end of the pot and are also clogging it, you've essentially wasted the catalyst... then it's better to do a little bit of tinkering and run it for 3 days without the catalyst.

See you, Gremlin

Okay, so, now I had a Bosch-cat installed, it was the cheapest one...
I wanted to do it myself, but without a lift... couldn't reach the screws. Now my workshop has replaced it (an independent ...), and they also replaced the timing belt. I must say: flawless work at almost half the VAG price! All used parts, of course, placed in the trunk for inspection.
It's actually the hardness: The ceramic in its original Kat form can actually rotate 180 degrees, so nothing can get through!!!
As far as my experience goes.
Best regards,
