Golf6 1.4 TSI 160PS - Timing chain elongation. VCDS Check

Hello everyone,

My wife recently got a new car.
Golf 6 TSI with 160 horsepower.
Common issues with the 1.4L TSI engine include timing chain problems.
As luck would have it, the car is now stalling when starting, and then making noises.
I suspect the chain is rattling.

"Wouldn't you be able to tell, based on the valve timing, that the chain is already stretched?"

I just remembered that there are also known issues with the camshaft adjuster.
Perhaps VCDS can also assist me with this task.

But -- check the valve timing, inspect the timing chain.

Can it be done with VCDS? But what's the point if the valve timing might not have been perfectly adjusted in the first place?

If, for example, the timing is 2 degrees too advanced, and the chain had stretched by the same amount,
Would you be at a 0-degree offset? And then -- you're just as smart as you were before.

I think, as Autoservice suggests, the only thing that might help is to disconnect it, as adjusting the target/actual values for the camshaft timing probably won't make a difference in this case.
It will likely still adjust with a longer chain, and if the absolute position is also taken into account (which I don't know), then comparison values from a different vehicle would be needed.

Sometimes, according to the logs, these errors also appear even at voltages of 14.xx volts.

Since the body control module seems to be affected only by "undervoltage," you should check its power supply, connector, cables, and fuse(s).

There are likely two variations for the engine version with the "vertical" oil filter.

Depending on the configuration and the use of the incorrect filter, it may cause oil pressure problems and chain rattling. The same applies to [something else, implied by "n."]. Statement regarding if the "2. (old)" sealing ring is left in place or forgotten during the oil filter housing replacement.

So, to keep you updated:

I had the timing chain replaced, as well as the water pump.
VW paid 100% of the labor costs and contributed 30% towards the parts.

After running smoothly for a month, the car has encountered a new problem again this morning.
During a cold start, the engine speed increases up to 2000 rpm.

Let's see what other surprises this vehicle has in store for me.

I checked the sensor and found no discrepancies.
The problem has hardly occurred at all for about 4-6 weeks.

I noticed that the SW version displayed in the MSG is very old, and I was wondering if there's a way to update it myself.
The friendly person wants 75-100 euros for it.
