Hello,

I just had a JX sent to the workshop for an overhaul, and I noticed that the cylinder head is not held in place by dowel pins.
"It only has some play in it with the screws, and Uncle Edgar didn't really help me with that, or I couldn't find anything about it in the pictures."

Could someone please explain in more detail how the cylinder head is brought into a defined position?

The good old JX, just like the one I had in my T3 back then, also didn't have sleeves, what would be the point?
Take 2 old head bolts, cut or saw off the heads, and create a slot at the top end using a saw or a thin flexible disc. Screw the 2 bolts into the outer edge of the block for 3-4 turns, then install the head gasket, and then the head. icon_wink.gif

Hi!

For that, there is a centering tool.
I think I might still have it.
This is similar to what T3-Surfer described.
This is how the head gasket is attached, and the plugs are slightly thicker at the top to ensure the head sits perfectly straight.
The two "plugs" are then removed by unscrewing them with a screwdriver with a left-hand thread.

I once made a guide pin from an old ZK screw, by bending a slot into it and adding a rounded shape at the top... it will probably be useful again icon_smile.gif.
