Hi, guys and girls, I have a 2009 VW Touran with a 1.9L diesel engine with engine code BLS. Unfortunately, it has a blown head gasket and won't move at all (a very common problem). Now, I'm getting a 1.9L diesel engine with engine code BKC from my salvage yard. The salvage yard said that the cylinder head and engine block are identical. Is that correct? Since everything looks different on the outside, such as the turbocharger, valve covers, tandem pump, and air supply, modifying the components would not be a problem. However, I just wanted to make sure that the body and head are the same, so I can save myself the work.
Thank you, Best regards, Jens |

The camshaft is definitely different, as the BKC engine does not have a DPF, while the BLS engine does. To achieve the post-injection at the BLS, a different cam profile for the PDE is required.
PDE itself probably also different, I should check the parts catalog.
Block including piston/crank/suspension and the head are identical. MfG. Michael

That's also the case. The BKC has 1.1L engines and the BLS has 1.5L engines. Therefore, you will most likely need to replace the engine control unit (ECU). This will then at least resolve the issue with the immobilizer. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Therefore, I understand that replacing the camshaft and PD (Powertrain Control) components, including any associated parts, should work. Thank you for the information. Let's get started. |

Check the KW sensor, as there are different versions that are not compatible. If the engine does not start, first use VCDS to check if there is a RPM/Speed synchronization signal. If there are any errors, use the original gear from your BLS motor.
Otherwise, the engine block (excluding all accessories) is usable.

If, then one should definitely do that beforehand
"Remove the transmission again, just to replace the sealing flange with the sealing ring (on the clutch side, as the impulse wheel is also installed there), is not very fun..." |

Hi,
BLS motor disassembled compared to BKC, all screws are missing in the engine block for attaching the AGR cooler and the particulate filter, etc. I will return the BKC and get a BLS. That would be too much hassle for me to fabricate brackets, etc., until everything is properly installed. Nevertheless, thank you.
