Hello, after searching the internet and the car itself for quite some time without finding anything, I have to ask... it's about an A4 B7 TDI with a 2.0-liter engine.
"For a few weeks now, I've been experiencing intermittent, poor driving behavior while driving, similar to a limp mode (but the check engine light doesn't come on). And occasionally, the engine starts very poorly. VCDS tells me that the camshaft sensor is malfunctioning. This is actually a well-known problem. However, my initial research has also shown that often it's not the sensor itself, but rather broken wires that are the cause (e.g., in Skodas)." In the description of the Audi, I found the note "broken cable at a known location," unfortunately without any further indication of where that location is.
Since the problem only occurs sporadically for me, any measurements taken at this stage are likely to depend randomly on whether there is contact at that particular moment.
1. Does anyone know where this ominous potential weak point is located? I didn't want to cut through all that insulation for nothing.
2. Since then, the vehicle has been driven very little, almost daily. Currently, the particulate filter warning light is still illuminated.
Does anyone have any insights as to whether this could be related to the sensor or the cable? Or is this still a new surprise egg? (I don't have the latest scan yet, I'm currently looking for my diagnostic cable).

Hello,

I would like to see the signal from the sensor displayed, or alternatively, I could adjust the synchronization angle in the engine control unit (ECU) while wiggling the cable (up to the ECU).

Best regards, Rainer.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out sometime when I have the time.
I've now found the cable and have attached the log from the MSG below. About 250 kilometers ago, it was only showing messages related to the NWS. As mentioned above, I now also have the emissions light on, along with the message "P0401 - 006 - Throughput too low...", presumably as a consequence (or perhaps it's just a coincidence).
But what about the exhaust flow? Surely, they can't measure that directly from the exhaust pipe. Perhaps they're measuring it at the EGR valve? The problem with the NWS (presumably referring to a sensor or system) could negatively affect the fuel injection, which could lead to increased soot formation, which would then clog the EGR valve even more, right? That's what my second question in my first post was aimed at, to what extent that might be related...
Interestingly, the "Readiness" monitor is green, and the OBD diagnostic confirms that there are no emissions-related faults – what a joke.
"In my previous BMW, the emissions light would occasionally come on because, due to a seemingly minor issue elsewhere, the engine control unit (MSG) would supposedly refuse to initiate the active regeneration of the filter (likely due to frequent short trips)." If this were actually the case, it's possible that an error from the National Weather Service (NWS) could also prevent the activation (speculation).

Sure, here's the translation:

"P.S.: The text string "OBD-Log (view via KDataScope)" was automatically inserted." "I only saw the word 'Log'."
Just so that no one has to waste time searching unnecessarily...

Of course, that will be measured using the mass flow meter. The engine displacement and RPM are already known.
