Hello,

The rubber boot on my left tie rod end has a vertical cut. It hasn't completely torn through yet, but it's quite deep. I think the mechanics messed something up again.

What's the best way to cover up this cut? Does anyone know of a specific type of glue or something similar?

Hello,

I would try using bicycle tire repair tools.
Clean thoroughly, degrease, roughen the surface, and then apply it.

Regards,
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please rephrase your request?

Actually, after roughening the surface, the steps are: apply, blend, wait, then apply again icon_smile.gif.

If it doesn't stick: use super glue.

Best regards, Rainer.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives (super glue) become too hard and brittle. First, degrease the surfaces with acetone or a similar solvent, and then roughen them. Afterwards, use a polyurethane adhesive (PUR), possibly with a hardener. I am a trained orthopedic shoemaker and therefore have experience with rubber materials and their processing.

@davidshoes

Where can I get a PUR adhesive like that? Can you recommend a specific product?

(Because if I go to the hardware store with that question, I'm guaranteed not to get a helpful answer, since they don't have the slightest idea here.)

Perhaps you should use a bicycle tire repair kit, or you could ask a shoemaker (Synthek Total from Renia is the adhesive we use).
