I have a rear R32 brake system at home and want to install it in my 85kW TDI pump-injector engine.

The rear disc brake currently has a diameter of 232mm.
The R32 brakes have a diameter of 250mm.

Do I also need a splash shield for the R32 brakes, or not?

Will I encounter any problems with the wheel hub/wheel bearing during the conversion (e.g., needing to press them in new?) icon_question.gif

The R32 brake has 258mm discs.

'And it seems the issue with the cover plate has also been resolved, as AKTE indicates that the R32 also has a cover plate.'

The metal part needs to be replaced, and to do that, the rear hub needs to be removed. This will also require new wheel bearings. However, the brake system won't fit your rear axle because the brackets are only designed for 4Motion vehicles, and you have a different rear axle. It's not a simple plug-and-play solution.

Furthermore,

Your Golf only brakes with approximately 20-25% of its force on the rear axle. Furthermore, the rear brakes shouldn't exceed the locking threshold. Therefore, modifying the rear brakes will mainly cost you money and stress, but won't significantly improve braking performance.

The front brake is the one that's likely to overheat quickly. It would probably be more sensible to replace it than to install a slightly wider rotor on the rear.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to contradict you! I'm just looking at it a bit critically, because I'm familiar with the brakes from a Golf, and I've never had to force the rear brakes to work – if anything, it's always the front brakes that are the limiting factor. Although, the rear brakes on the TDI are actually quite well-sized at 288mm. You could, for example, upgrade to the brakes from an S3, which are 312x25 (I think that's the diameter).

The 288 brake system should be sufficient for the front.
Should I send you some EBC-icon_lol.gif Jellow Stuff for the front and rear?
"Green Stuff" is already sufficient.

Does the 85 kW TDI engine in the Golf 4 actually have a 288mm brake rotor on the front?

I thought he had installed the 280s!

He's right, it's 280mm, but he's talking about increasing the size and modifying it...
The R32 has 256 [horsepower] at the rear, while the Polo 9N has 130 [horsepower] at the front!

The R32 has 256 at the rear, while the Polo 9N has 130 horsepower at the front!

...The Polo, Fabia, and Ibiza with 130 hp (ASZ, BLT) have 288mm brake discs with FNIII calipers on the front axle.

The Golf TDI 85kw has 280mm brakes with FSIII pads, which tend to overheat quickly. I have the same brakes on my Octavia.
'I've been very satisfied with the ATS54 brakes with 288mm discs that I installed at 40,000 km.'

"Interestingly, our Octavia 1.9 TDI with 74 kW has the 288mm brake discs on the front. This is probably because it's a 4motion (or, in Skoda terminology, 4x4) model."
