Hi.
Has anyone here ever experienced a situation where a TÜV inspector specifically checked for an 'tampered' (in any way; whether sealed with metal or 'sealed' with a hose) EGR valve during a vehicle inspection (ASU)?
I installed a sheet of metal, approximately 1mm thick, in the shape of the original gasket, between the valve and the manifold. If you are aware of the issue and pay close attention, you can usually recognize it.
The fact that it's not entirely legal (because the Euro 2 classification would then be a lie --> tax evasion, no operating permit --> no insurance coverage, etc.) is not up for discussion.
But will the inspector from TÜV (a German technical inspection agency) notice?
Regards,
Hermann.

"If he wants to, then definitely." I only experienced him crawling under the disguise once. Gruß Bertil

Unfortunately, my engine cover does not cover the EGR valve or the intake manifold...

If you want to be 100% sure, just take the slip of paper out.

I took my car to the TÜV (German technical inspection) in my car. The AGR valve was closed with a metal plate. I'm such an idiot, I even forgot to plug my MAF sensor back in (I'm running with a diode bypass). They didn't notice anything or say anything, even though they looked at everything very carefully.
I was directly at DEKRA. I had to remove my suspension limiters for that (they figured it out on their own).

I had the TüV/AU inspection done back then (at ATU).
The AGR (Abgasrückführung - exhaust gas recirculation) was obviously reconnected, I think they would have noticed if it was producing too good results.
My 10 cent modification, however, he didn't notice; he probably thought I just clipped the ESP switch in there for fun.

I'm just going to take the car to the TÜV (technical inspection) with the EGR valve obviously disconnected. It's never caused any problems before. If anyone notices, I'll just say that I forgot to reconnect it after the EGR valve got stuck the last time. Moralizers can just stick that where the sun doesn't shine. However, so far, even VW employees have, after a brief inquiry, readily disconnected the AGR without any reservations.
Regards,
Olaf.
