Hi there,
Yes, I've always known it, diesel is bad icon_wink.gif.
You have to consider buying a gasoline-powered car, for example.
Lamborghini Murciélago.
There, you don't have the bad disadvantages of diesel, yet you still get 650 Nm icon_wink.gif.
And with a fuel tank capacity of 100 liters, you can travel at least 500 kilometers.
and whether I need 4 liters or 12 liters of engine oil for an oil change, it doesn't really matter, does it?
because you absolutely need to have a 0 to 200 km/h acceleration time of 11.4 seconds icon_biggrin.gif.
It's quite obvious, isn't it?
greetings

How right that guy is. icon_cry.gif He just didn't consider that, in a diesel engine, the maximum torque doesn't occur at 4000 rpm, but usually below 2000. Man, oh man, how can someone utter so much nonsense!

Well, the reasoning isn't bad, but it's also partly flawed. What I found particularly amusing was:

It is incomprehensible how diesel vehicles can be certified to the Euro 3 standard, as the emission limits must be guaranteed for at least 80,000 km. This is not credible without proper regulations! The TÜV (technical inspection agency) will only object in extreme cases, as it tests according to simplified criteria.

My ALH was still significantly below the required values for D3 at 160,000 km... icon_wink.gif And all of this was with the original exhaust system, nothing had been replaced.

'While I may not be able to contribute much to the discussion about euro3 on my 1z engine, the AU (which was the first to be euro2 compliant) also produced results well below the required emissions after 250,000 km, despite having a very aggressive tuning.'
My PD AWX engine, with its approximately 110,000 km mileage, was also well below the permissible tolerance.

icon_eek.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_evil.gif --> This is my reaction to "diesel-critical".

I will take some time to carefully consider this, and then I will express my opinion on this matter to that gentleman in a suitable manner.

Just to preface this: If someone had told me at the beginning of my driving life (1984) that I would have a car with 110 horsepower (81 kW) in 18 years, a car that accelerates from 60 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds in the highest gear (measured myself, taking into account speedometer deviation) and in practice consumes 5 liters of diesel per 100 km, I would have considered them completely crazy. A gasoline engine can't do that, but maybe in 18 years. icon_rolleyes.gif

I only read the article about performance.

What a load of nonsense! The author is jumping around randomly and shouting about "normalization," throws in a few diagrams where all the curves overlap, and doesn't explain AT ALL how he arrived at those conclusions.

If I only have engine speed and torque values, how can I simply say that for TDI engines, I need to "adjust" these values because...?

Let him rev his "whisper-quiet" turbocharged gasoline engine to 6000 RPM at the traffic light. I keep mine at 1500 RPM.

http://www.horbiradio.de/Dokumente/kosten.html
ist vom 5. March 2003.

It's strange that, back then, the author only referred to "French cars" as having "particularly low emissions."

"Especially when he tries to explain the financial aspects (and doesn't quite succeed), I wonder what happened to my colleague's tax-incentivized 100 horsepower TDI from 2001?"

He has a D4, and my sister's 2003 Peugeot HDI FAP (109 hp) only has Euro 3 emissions standards!!!

Sure, people can argue about the meaning and purpose of standards and limits, but as a consumer, I have to accept them as a given. And then, the Bora is "more environmentally friendly" and "cheaper" than the Peugeot!

I have been arriving at completely different results regarding the "break-even" calculations for years. Incidentally, even earlier, the ADAC (German Automobile Club) found that the E-Class was already worth it upon purchase.
VW is capitalizing on the success of the TDI icon_smile.gif.

I hate articles that are so one-sided, especially when they present someone's personal opinion as a universally valid demand or fact.
"Since the diesel engine always produces soot, it must have a diesel particulate filter."
Why?? I don't have one, but I still drive.

It would be good for our children if everyone had one, yes, but he doesn't *have* to do it!

I'm calming down now.

Hi,
I was spontaneously reminded of the following article icon_twisted.gif.

What is electricity?
A treatise on electric current from the perspective of a...
Mechanical engineers:
Please remember this first, important point:
- The soup is very thin!
- That's why you don't need a hose for electricity.
- Electricity simply flows through a wire, and the wire can be incredibly thin.
- You can't transmit electricity with wood; it probably absorbs it.
- Surprisingly, the same is true for plastics.
- However, when the electricity is not needed, it is not thin.
- On the contrary, it's viscous; otherwise, it would leak out of the socket.
- That's why we don't need to put lids on the cans after the internship either.

By the way, the electricity is very fast: just go to a light switch and...

once it has been switched on. And, as physics tells us, electricity is like...
As fast as light. That makes sense, because electricity powers the light, and...
After all, a product can't be faster than its origin.
After all, the wine needs to ferment before it tastes good, and...

The product of electricity, light, is very fast: you can travel with it at great speed.

Post16-02-2004, 13:39    Subject: Is it true? Find out now! Quote

Hello everyone!
I read this engineer's literary ramblings with a smile and a bitter, tearful eye... It must be the result of eating too much cereal and inhaling jute fumes; you can't be born with such a level of incompetence. Just his attempt to compare the qualitative regulation of a gasoline engine with the much more economical quantitative control of a diesel engine, under the pretext that the diesel only considers the individual cylinders to a limited extent... is outrageous! While this might still be partially true for some VP-TDI engines, even from the perspective of a layman, this argument is completely outdated when it comes to PD or common rail systems.
Then, of course, there's the all-too-familiar 'Greanpiss' argument about the supposedly evil diesel soot – I can't stand it anymore! Back in the 80s, these people went after the 'evil' gasoline engine, which is now supposedly 'clean,' so they needed something new to attack. No one wants to hear that soot emissions have decreased significantly in the last 10 years. Furthermore, the actual danger of soot to the human body hasn't even been proven yet; they're basing it on experiments with rats (which isn't always conclusive, see the acrylamide hysteria). However, it should also be mentioned that the amounts needed to be transferred to the human body would mean that you would essentially have to breathe pure diesel fumes for a month, which seems rather unrealistic.
All in all, the only sentence that comes to mind is this... please excuse me if it sounds a bit political:
Hang the Greens as long as there are still trees!

Best regards,

Dominique.

I think Herr would be perfectly suited to sell car polishes on channels like HOT or similar, with products that could be used to polish the hood.

"The quality of its exhaust emissions is very sensitive to tolerances and wear!"
In my opinion, they are evidence of a certain confusion.

Also cool!!

"The diesel engine emits what is likely the most dangerous pollutant, ..." blah blah.

The guy is actually quite funny; he undermines his own "arguments" right in the first sentence: "probably."

Just as nonsensical as "Throat can be deadly."

I am a complete non-smoker, and sometimes I get annoyed by the smokers, but I think the jokes are totally pointless.

"Staying at home can also be deadly," especially if the neighbor has tampered with the gas line, potentially causing the house to explode.

And the kids tend to think it's cool to defy that danger and still smoke.

Hello everyone!

The website was somewhat amusing, but also quite frustrating.

Let's summarize: The claim that a direct comparison of torque and power between diesel and gasoline engines is not entirely accurate is correct. However, the way in which the "normalization" was applied to the gasoline engine's speed scale was simply ridiculous.
If one wants to compare apples with apples and pears with pears, then one should not miscalculate the different characteristics, but rather use a traction diagram plotted against speed for the various gear ratios, taking into account the gear ratio adapted to the respective engine type.
Then you can immediately see which engine, in which gear, and at which speed, is capable of generating what amount of tractive force on the drive wheels.
Then, even a non-expert can quickly realize that to achieve comparable traction levels, the gasoline engine needs to be driven 1-2 gears lower in the higher RPM range.

Regarding exhaust emissions, I have my own opinions. My (highly simplified) rule of thumb is: the less fuel that is burned, the less comes out the back.
Certainly, there's still a need to differentiate between the various components of exhaust emissions, but this constant doomsday scenario surrounding diesel exhaust fumes really gets on my nerves.
Let those who hate diesels try driving behind a cold gasoline engine that spews out unburned hydrocarbons while the catalytic converter and engine are still cold. To me, that really stinks. This type of cold start and warm-up enrichment doesn't exist in diesel engines!

Regards,
Alex.

My (highly simplified) motto is: The less fuel that is burned, the less comes out the back.

Something will still happen.
Gasoline direct injection engines are rapidly catching up to diesel engines.
The website is also correct in that you shouldn't calculate the volume of fuel. Instead, you should either use the specific consumption rate or correct the volume based on the energy content.
Then, the BDEs are slowly getting into dangerous proximity to the DI's icon_wink.gif.

But the rest... the guy has never driven a gasoline car or a TDI with a trailer before... oh dear.

Perhaps we should ask him why a 2.5 TDI with multitronic, despite being heavier, accelerates faster than a 1.8T with multitronic. Both have a nominal power output of 110 kW.
and now? icon_razz.gif

'Hmm, these are, in my opinion, the typical clichés and arguments that are thrown at you everywhere. In another forum, I often have disagreements with a T4 VR6 LPG driver, where the word 'diesel soot' always comes up. It hasn't been proven that diesel soot causes cancer (except in rats, but flour does the same thing at the same concentration). Well, I don't care, I'm a TDI fan. On one side (kein-diesel.at), there's a comparison between a 2.5 TDI and a 1.8 T, and I don't believe that the 1.8 T can be operated with 7.9 liters and the TDI with 7.7 liters in city driving. Either the 2.5 TDI is lower, or the 1.8 T is higher.'

Best regards, WarLord.
