10 Cent Coin: Experience & Value Insights

I built a 10-cent box containing 680 resistors, plus the option to add either a 1,000-ohm or a 5,000-ohm potentiometer.

Okay, so still without the diodes. I haven't experienced any runaway issues, but I've been running the box at its maximum output (effectively shorting the potentiometer) and using only the 680-ohm resistor.

I haven't seen any "Russ" (likely a typo or nickname), and I definitely felt more agility. It's true that the engine is now more responsive in the lower gears, but it also pulls better in the higher gears.

DZR (take-off distance) shortened from 9.3 to 7.9 meters on a very slightly uphill runway (G3 Var with some luggage and 2 people -> approximately 1450 kg maximum take-off weight).

What values are the other 10 users in this forum getting?

With 185/60 R14 tires, I needed 8.3 seconds in the DZR mode. With the 10C setting, I was able to reduce that time to 6.5 seconds.
I always drove alone, and whether the tank was half full or full never seemed to make a difference, at least not if you were only measuring it with a stopwatch.

Okay, so you probably don't have a variant (different transmission, heavier version).

But what resistance values (with or without diodes) did you use?

Hi,

It's a 2-door model with an ASD transmission. The potentiometer's resistance measures 369 ohms; it's a 2k ohm potentiometer. I just checked it, and with that value, it performed well. That's why I'm disappointed with my current control box, as it doesn't even come close to that performance. I'll take it to a specialist for adjustment.

Okay, the weight of the 2-door model is stated as 1120 kg. Adding my weight (80 kg) brings the total to 1200 kg. I don't know how much fuel weight will be added to that, as the measurements were taken with both a half-full and a full tank, and the differences were relatively small.

Well, I see it, but I'm wondering what you're trying to say with it.
Instead of posting those numbers, why don't you share the DZR figures? That way, we can actually compare things.

I also have a potentiometer on the pump connector. It doesn't have a diode, but that doesn't seem to be a problem with the early 1Z models. My engine control unit (ECU) definitely doesn't perform a start check, because I can adjust anything I want, and it always starts (even if it doesn't run properly afterwards).
I'm at 530 ohms. It's just enough that the idle speed (with the 1Z pump) returns to a reasonable 800 RPM. The dwell time is (as far as I remember) 7.4 seconds. However, as soon as the engine exceeds approximately 2800 RPM, it starts to misfire significantly. This is because my boost pressure has quite large overshoots at lower RPMs (1.1 bar) and only drops back to 0.8 bar at 2800 RPM. I've been meaning to address this for a while, but I haven't had the chance yet.

By the way, it seems that with an AFN pump (which was cheaper ) in a 1Z engine, you can apparently push the 10-cent tuning a little further without the idle control becoming unstable. However, it might just be a coincidence, and mine is already producing enough smoke anyway.

Generally, I can say that the car, with the 10-cent modification, is quite responsive in all gears, and I don't think I can live without it anymore. Before, it couldn't even pull a small fish.
