I have a small problem!

17664 - Coolant temperature sensor (G62) - Intermittent or short circuit - P1256 - 35-10 --- Occasional.

I deleted the error, and now it doesn't reappear. So, it was probably just a short circuit, or will the error not come back if I delete it?

Does anyone happen to know the part number for the coolant temperature sensor?

Hi,

While Uwe has built some great things into VAG-COM, an automatic repair function for the car is not yet included icon_smile.gif.
Either your battery is faulty (which happens more often), or the connection cable or connector has a loose contact. Alternatively, you may have started the car with the connector disconnected.
The part number is printed on the temperature sensor.

Best regards, Rainer.

How can we help you if all you tell us is your car's license plate number?

Vehicle type, engine code, year of manufacture – please provide that information, and then I'll give you the number.

And one more thing: Which temperature sensor is it? There are often several options!

Could it be that the performance decreases? I noticed it when I fiddled with the sensor, and then when I drove, it seemed like it was pulling better.

Yes, if the engine control unit detects an excessively high coolant temperature, it may (possibly, because I'm not certain that this always happens) reduce the fuel injection amount.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello, I have a Golf 4 TDI with 74 kW (101 hp), manufactured in 2002, engine code 1J1 '0603 558'. Question: Could someone please provide me with the part number for the coolant temperature sensor? I'm also experiencing issues with the glow plugs and have read error code 17664 via OBD. THANK YOU!

If you have the AXR engine code (1J1 is your model, which is a Golf), then it's likely this one.

Dual temperature sensor (4-pin, green):
059 919 501 A ~24€

...and don't forget the mounting clip (mine was made of plastic and broke during disassembly)...it's only a penny item, but it's valuable if it's missing...

Best regards, Styrian.

Okay, I tinkered around tonight... icon_confused.gif It cost 28 euros for the sensor and bracket. Everything went smoothly. However, the retaining bracket is really prone to breaking. icon_smile.gif Then I quickly went to a Bosch service center to have the error memory cleared (for a small tip). By the way, the part number was correct! (comparison of the removed part with the new replacement part) Excellent.

thank you for your help }

Hello!
I also want to replace my dual temperature sensor... where can I find it on the engine?
I already bought it, but I can't find where it goes on the engine.

Hello,

For the 74 kW auxiliary water pump, it's the same part number: 059 919 501 A (approximately €26 net). I didn't use the plastic clip, but instead used an O-ring with it (net €0.5icon_cool.gif.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate the installation point either. I found some temperature sensors, but none of them had a green wire for the coolant. Could someone please tell me exactly where the sensor is located?
Bertil mentioned something about being located behind the engine (in the transverse AXR configuration). So, in a longitudinal AVB engine, would that be on the passenger side, next to the engine block? Would it be above or below? In my "Almost doing it myself" guide, there's a diagram of a gasoline engine where it appears to be located at the top/rear of the cylinder head.

You're welcome, haithamina.

You've probably already found the right sensor (even if it's not green).
If I recall correctly, the part is located on the side, accessible from the passenger side, within the connection fitting (i.e., facing you).
Since it's a double connector (with four contacts), you can start by unplugging the connector and taking a look.
Whether the new sender will fit.
To be absolutely sure, you can also read the temperatures using VCDS (with and without the connector, or with the old and new sensor).

Okay, my oxygen sensor was black on the Passat. Now I have a green one from Hella installed. The part number is correct. It's the one with the oval connector. It fits in various VAG models. Older models also had a four-pin connector, but it was square. The AVB model doesn't use that type.
Located at the rear of the cylinder head, below the tandem pump, is an aluminum flange with the glow plug heater. Below that is a black coolant flange, and that's where it's situated. As Wiesel mentioned, you can access it from the passenger side.
If the plug connector jams again, pull out the plastic clip, remove the sensor (while it's still attached to the cable), and then you'll have more room to maneuver and can use both hands. Then it will be much easier. Don't forget to remove the rubber ring from the flange if it gets stuck, and be careful not to let the plastic clip fall into the engine compartment.
