Hi,

"Dieseldirk has a great online guide for timing belt replacement, but be careful! Using that method can damage the camshaft lobe (at least it did on my JP!). Rotating the crankshaft with a timing light is very risky."

http://tdiclub.com/articles/A3-TimingBelt/

What does the Canadian who built the manual have to do with a hellish machine for the KW housing ventilation system?

Does anyone know about this?

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I believe this will be the victim of these outrageous, American pseudo-environmental feel-good measures.

In the workshop manual for my Kawasaki Z6, the American KW housing ventilation system is explained... icon_mad.gif They're really crazy.
They release most of the CO2 into the air and then make a fuss about it.

I couldn't find any errors in the instructions. He is using the correct clamping devices, locating pins, etc. It was also nowhere apparent that he was adjusting the crankshaft, even though the NW gauge is still inserted. Have you still not replaced your ZR? Oh, were you busy with Dimmen icon_wink.gif?

"Quote:"
After removing the cam lock tool and the fuel injection pump locking pin, rotate the camshaft one full revolution. You will feel resistance due to cylinder compression, so it will require considerable force.
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."

Turning the engine over by rotating the camshaft is already a very bad practice!

Best regards, Robert.

However, that was not intended by Dieselmartin! See above.

The workshop manual for my Kawasaki Z6 explains the American KW housing ventilation system...

How does the American kilowatt-hour (kWh) exhaust ventilation system work? Is the gas collected, liquefied, cooled into ice, and then disposed of over Cuba? Well, that explains why their vehicles consume so much fuel. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey everyone, can anyone tell me what kind of sensor that is in the 14th picture? I mean the blue sensor on the left side (when facing forward) of the cylinder head. Is it an oil temperature sensor?

In the initial setup, all the gauges and mandrels are included, *and only then* is the vibration damper of the KRR (likely a specific component) detached from the KW (another component).

The action cost the JP company a fortune!

The camshaft locking bar and injection pump pin will prevent this. You don't have to worry about damaging the lock bar or pin because the balancer bolts don't have enough leverage on the crankshaft to rotate the camshaft while it's locked in place.

Yep, the "locking bar" held up, but not the "camshaft."

But now I'm wiser... it's about to start...

Hmm, the vibration damper must have been extremely corroded. Or the needle valve was already faulty. I can't imagine that simply unscrewing three small screws would completely ruin the needle valve. Furthermore, it's more likely that the needle valve guide would bend before a whole cam lobe breaks off. I still find it hard to believe how a bent needle valve guide could cause a cam lobe to break.

...but that has nothing to do with the ventilation?

What bothers me most about the device is that it looks very homemade and improvised.

The corner piece on the valve cover is pond equipment from a hardware store, but it's not a VW-specific U.S. part (probably due to stricter emissions regulations or something like that).

Does anyone have any idea about this?

It will likely only require sending an email to the owner of the car. However, I suspect it's an oil separator.

It is an oil separator.

In the United States, no oil is allowed to enter the KGE.
In the EU, this is not a problem; there, the oil mist must be disposed of through certified waste management companies.

This oil separator is not included in all vehicles; it varies from state to state.

Okay, let's assume it's an oil separator.

But why is it "glued" on with hardware store stuff?

Surely there must be something from Volkswagen to make the standard TDI engine compatible with US regulations?

Is there no equivalent of our TÜV over there that would "shoot you down" if you presented them with this design claiming it complies with legal regulations?

As Bertil already mentioned, the regulations vary from state to state. VW probably delegated the necessary adjustments to local representatives for cost reasons. And if I recall what I saw on the roads in Florida, there's no need to question whether vehicles have undergone technical inspections (TÜV).

The oil separator is probably just a large container with some maze-like passages inside.

Is there anything like that available locally for a low price?

I'm just curious about how much oil passes through the crankcase ventilation system in my tractor.

Starting at 140, the majority of the air probably passes through the turbo wave - as evidenced by how the compressor looked icon_evil.gif.
