Hi!

'For the past 3 days, I've been experiencing almost the same problem, except that sometimes, after the engine is turned off, the oil pressure light flashes. If you then turn the ignition off and on again, all the lights come on except for the glow plug light.'

You have to wait about 3 minutes before the engine can be restarted. Sometimes, the preheating light only flickers briefly when the ignition is turned on. Apparently, the disappearance of the preheating light has nothing to do with the engine's ability to start.

I also noticed that during the phase when the engine won't start, the motor spins unusually fast when the starter is engaged. It's as if the ESP isn't providing any assistance and therefore isn't offering any resistance.

I then measured the voltage at the shut-off valve during the phase when the engine wouldn't start, while the ignition was turned on. I only saw 12V for about 1 second, after which the voltage completely disappeared.

I measured the resistance of the shut-off valve (however, with the control unit connected in parallel): 6.5 ohms. That would be approximately 25 watts of power at the vehicle's voltage! That's why I have these questions:

1.) Is the low resistance normal, and is the control voltage being pulsed via PWM?
2.) Can someone tell me the pass-through resistance of the shut-off valve? Could there possibly be a short circuit?

I'm still trying to figure things out. The central question is whether the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) is intentionally triggering a shutdown, or whether the engine is stalling due to a sudden interruption of an electrical wire, connection, or solder joint.

Therefore, I am kindly requesting assistance. Does anyone in the Stuttgart metropolitan area have a diagnostic tool or VAG-COM available and can read the error codes for me?

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance.'
Best regards,
Holger.

Hello.

Doesn't he also have a type 109 relay?

Lorenz.

Okay, I'll check the 109 relay today.

Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble finding the technical specifications for this mysterious relay using the search function. In 9 out of 10 threads, the comment 'Have you checked the 109?' appears in response to all sorts of possible errors.

It essentially turns the on-board electronics on and off. Okay. Can anyone provide a more detailed explanation? Can anyone point me to a source for wiring diagrams for the Arosa, Lupo, or Polo SDI? I would appreciate any relevant information sent via private message.

icon_arrow.gif Of course, I'm also looking for someone from the '7er Bereich' who can read the error codes for me for a small fee!

Best regards,

Okay everyone, I've taken apart that famous Relais 109 and removed the cover. And look, the two solder pads appear to be cracked.

'Before that, I went to a friendly mechanic in my town, and he quickly read the error codes for free. He printed it out on a kind of receipt: Code 00002, No errors detected. And the mechanic kindly said, 'Usually, it's the relay 109.'

When I touched the relay and pulled it out, it was extremely hot. In one case, the affected solder joint was directly on the contact tongue, and in another, it was on one of the coil connections.

Okay, I'm going to solder now, and I'll apply a thin layer of solder to each soldering pad before I start.

By the way, I believe that such a classic defect deserves its own dedicated technical article, and I would like to offer my photo for that purpose.

PS: Hopefully, that was the bug!

Hi.

I'm quite certain that was the error.

However, it would have been very easy to find out icon_wink.gif through a search.

Best regards, Lorenz.

However, it could have been easily found out through a simple search icon_wink.gif .

The searching wasn't really the problem. The helpful person was just repeating things that were already on my to-do list.

Anyway: It's working properly again! icon_biggrin.gif icon_cool.gif

I didn't expect the error to be so simple.

Hello,
I'm experiencing the same problem with my Audi 80 1.9L TDI (1Z).
The car suddenly turns off while driving, and then sometimes it restarts immediately, while other times it only restarts after a long period of being stationary.
It doesn't seem to be relay 339 (relay 109 isn't available on Audi models), because the preheating indicator light doesn't come on. If I pull out the relay, the indicator light does come on, but it doesn't when there's a fault.
The engine cuts out, and all the other lights in the cockpit turn on.

A pattern, whether weather-related or otherwise, cannot be detected.
The car also doesn't have an immobilizer.

The error:
My car is very sluggish (in my opinion). About 10 seconds before the problem occurs, the car suddenly accelerates, as if it has 50 horsepower more. Then, the engine suddenly dies. After the car restarts, it runs sluggishly again, as usual.
I had ruled out the solenoid valve as the cause of the problem because of the sudden increase in power observed before the failure.
While other electronic components, such as NHG MSW, etc., can influence performance, they should never be allowed to shut down the motor, right?

I'm completely at a loss. Even VAG-COM isn't providing a useful error message for the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Why does the box suddenly accelerate so well right before it turns off?

Recently, I downshifted while the engine stalled and allowed the car's momentum to keep the engine turning. I also repeatedly pressed the accelerator pedal.
Eventually, it started up again. It ran for about 10 seconds and then turned off again.
It happened like that about three times, and then it was over.
After that, he continued on his way, moving at his usual slow pace.

I would be grateful for any help.

MHF
