I got this modification from that workshop! And I received this modification because the master technician who usually handles my cases is currently on vacation, and he told me, "...give this to my colleague so he knows what to do..." He promised me that he would replace the control unit (STG).
The form even includes the damage report number and billing information! By the way, the vehicle has a used car warranty with xxx Insurance! Since the mileage is below 50,000 km, there's even a material cost participation of 0%. If VW doesn't cover the payment, the VW dealership can demand it from the insurance company.

The idea actually came from me, as I had tried something similar before, and I had pointed out the illegality of that solution.

If I were in your shoes, I would first tell the workshop that since the intervention, there has been a permanent error message "LMM signal implausible" (which should be there due to the EGR modification), and that is why you want a new mass airflow sensor.

I would definitely have the mass airflow sensor replaced as well new_tomato.gif.

If one had more time, it could be funny... somehow I'm starting to feel like I'm leaving every VAG workshop as the most hated customer icon_cool.gif. Maybe I'm too picky... icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif.

Oh dear... Did someone demand payment for an ECU (Engine Control Unit) swap, possibly even the entire ECU itself, and instead just shove a screw into the EGR hose?
It kind of reminds me of the timing belt issue I had with my A3. The first replacement was supposed to be free according to VAG (Volkswagen Group), but instead, I received a bill for almost 1300 DM, and I also had to pay for a rental car for two days myself...

Best regards, Rainer.

@bertil

If that's the case, then it's even more sad! Often, in VW workshops, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Hello,

For those who don't want to read any further:
The jerking and idling vibrations have disappeared with the new control unit.
Das Auto lässt sich auch viel angenehmer fahren. Anfahrschwäche? Wwhat is that?

But now, let's move on to today's workshop story:
When I entered the workshop building that morning, I couldn't find the customer service representative who had been there on Friday. That colleague was working the late shift (2:00 PM to 10:00 PM). So, I showed the first available customer service representative my prepared letter, which he read silently and responded with, "...I understand that." He then immediately called a workshop supervisor who informed me in a separate room about the next steps. Without being asked, I was given a replacement car (a Golf 4 1.4L 16V... truly the ultimate anti-car!!).
At 4:30 PM, I went to pick up the car from the repair shop, and surprisingly, the customer service representative I had been trying to reach was there. As soon as he recognized me, he immediately left the room. The workshop foreman quickly pulled me out of the line in front of the reception desk and took me to another colleague, who introduced himself as the workshop manager. This colleague responded very curtly: "…the car has never vibrated or jerked! Your customer service representative should have explained the repair to you." "No, he didn't," I replied. There was an awkward silence, followed by a statement like "...a communication problem... ...and that the temporary deactivation of the EGR system was just a trial run." They could have saved themselves the trouble; I had already tried that myself. The problem was that the customer service representative from Friday considered the replacement of the control units ("STGs") to be "complete nonsense" and therefore did everything else first (even a compression test!!!).
After an extensive test drive with the workshop foreman, both of us were able to confirm that the problems had been resolved.

What do you think we can expect now? ...

Should I take some time to look at article number 827 now?

Hey Bertil, congratulations!

and it actually works!!! you just need to express your displeasure in a polite way, and then it will work out! you'll be treated the way a customer deserves to be treated! namely, royally! I find the opening hours of this VW place remarkable! if you show up here at 5:45 PM, you'll just catch the person closing up! even though it should be open until 6:00 PM! icon_evil.gif

Hi;

Should I take some time now to work on article number 827?

Of course you should! What kind of question is that...?

P.S.:
You can now compare the old VP-1Z with the new PDs.
Da ich ja auch lange 1Z fuhr, würde ich gern mal wissen, ob der PD wirklich so was wie einen Fortschritt darstellt. Rest time?
Some people think she is cruel.
(The timing of such a question is probably not ideal, given your frustration.)

Hi Jörg,

der Laden ist noch viel Bemerkenswerter: morgens das Auto abgegeben - kein passendes STG an Lager aber Abends das korrekte STG eingebaut!! Es ist sogar ein neues (Prod. Date: October 2nd.
I've heard many similar stories about faulty spare parts from this supplier. They supply a large number of independent workshops within a radius of 100 km.

Hi Markus,

No, the timing is well-chosen.
The running smoothness before the DSG replacement was a disaster, but now I have a completely different car. This morning, I could turn down the car radio much more than before, and the engine doesn't vibrate at all when accelerating (in no RPM range; my 1Z always did that).
I think that if a PD is completely icon_sad.gif okay, then it should already be a step forward. Unfortunately, the production tolerances are not yet under control, or the output must be so high that it is not possible to reject parts due to tolerance issues. } That's why, instead of properly selecting PD elements from the beginning, they are often replaced at the customer's site.

@everyone

The software on the old ECU must have been really bad, because some other "anomalies" have disappeared:
- The fuel consumption reading decreased by 0.7 liters per 100 km. Now, when driving on a downhill slope at a constant speed of 120 km/h (cruise control), the reading shows 0.7 liters per 100 km higher.
- The engine warmed up much faster this morning (despite the 0°C temperature).
- smoother operation across all RPM ranges.
- Reduced "initial lag" (all PDs have this).
- No more jerky movements from the starting position.
- No idle vibrations.

Purely subjectively, the engine feels significantly more powerful between 1000 and 1800 RPM.

@bertil

If the so-called VW workshops actually repaired cars as well as they claim, instead of being reluctant, misleading customers, and most importantly, lying to them, then one would already be satisfied!

bsp: About half a year ago, the exhaust pipe on my Passat suddenly started leaking at the connection point where the pipe meets the muffler – the pipe and muffler were rusted through. Since I haven't had particularly good experiences with ATU exhaust parts, I reluctantly went to my beloved VW workshop. The warehouse employee told me that he would have to order the part. That was already a problem for me, since these things usually fail in hundreds every day. The warehouse employee's explanation was: 'It never breaks.' The exhausts are made of stainless steel. icon_eek.gif Well, for someone who doesn't know anything, that sounds plausible! But I just laughed and then asked if galvanized material is the same as V2A or V4A stainless steel! The answer was: 'Galvanized is the same as V4A.' icon_evil.gif

It's no surprise that two Volkswagen dealerships in our area have closed down recently! The price-to-service ratio and the balance between truthfulness and deception probably weren't right.

Of course, I forwarded this little anecdote to the VW customer service department. icon_cool.gif They then contacted me and apologized meekly for this incompetence! }

@ bertil!

Do you happen to know when the software might have been changed (or a new ECU installed)? I'm also experiencing some jerking at around 2000 RPM with my 'AWX' engine.

@joergs!

Within two months, I visited three different Volkswagen workshops. After the visits, I received a questionnaire from the company 'Mail & Return' (which is supposedly affiliated with VW) for two out of the three workshops. I wonder why I didn't receive this letter for the third workshop, which was the one I had been a regular customer at (!!!) and which was by far the worst!

Best regards, D.

@d

I believe the service department knows its employees and the capabilities of its specialists. Through good connections, I know that other things were happening in that workshop during the same period. What happened to me was really just a minor issue compared to those. However, VW quickly reacted and revoked the dealership's authorized dealer status, downgrading it to a secondary dealer. This had some unpleasant consequences for the owner regarding payment terms and vehicle procurement. That's right! Hopefully, performance will finally become a priority there. The mechanics at the VW group need to get used to delivering corresponding quality and stop just boasting and taking advantage of customers.

Before my Passat TDI, I had an Audi 80 (type 89) with a gasoline engine (1.8S). It was also getting old. At some point, there was a serious leak in one of the drive shafts. So, I took it to a VW service center. They quickly identified the problem: the transmission. After only 120,000 km! Of course, it wouldn't last longer than that. I was skeptical. Then, at home, I looked more closely and discovered that the cover of the brake fluid reservoir had a crack because the VW mechanic who performed the last brake fluid service had apparently eaten too much breakfast beforehand! This gave me the opportunity to report this workshop to the Chamber of Crafts. Unfortunately, the owner of the garage was a master craftsman in the trade association, so my complaint went nowhere. By the way, that company has since gone bankrupt.

Hi D.,

If you've read my initial post, everything should be clear. The original message from Volkswagen is italicized there.

Current update!!!!

"I received an invoice yesterday for a new control unit (ECU). Yes, Volkswagen even pays 70% of the cost for their own mistakes! It's great when the customer has to pay generously for design flaws!"
I'm just wondering where my used car warranty comes into play here. So, on to the next round icon_evil.gif.

@joergs!

Are you from the same place as me?
My former dealer is now a 'B'-rated dealer, and the owner is also the Master of the Trade Guild!
Or is it a coincidence?

@ Bertil!
Well, I should have looked more closely. Happy New Year!

Hello everyone!

I received my 130 HP TDI from WOB yesterday with a new engine and transmission, due to the vibrations at idle. icon_biggrin.gif

The new one hasn't had any noticeable vibrations so far, but it runs rougher than the original engine and incredibly much rougher than my 110 (AHF); there's no comparison!!! icon_evil.gif

Who has had similar experiences comparing 110-130 HP TDI engines, or generally regarding the running smoothness of a 130 HP TDI/PD engine? icon_question.gif

I'm very interested. It's clear that the PD engines are significantly worse than the old VP TDI engines in this regard, although that would only be noticeable to those who switched from a 90 or 110 to a PD engine.

The new engine shows a fuel consumption of 0.9 - 1.0 liters per hour at idle, while the old one had 0.6 - 0.7 liters per hour in the MFA (when warm). What values are you getting with your engines?

Thank you for the information.

Regards,
Thomas.

Hello Thomas,

I can only vaguely remember, but I believe it was around 0.5-0.7 liters per hour for my AXR engine.

By the way, the AXR will be spending the next two weeks in the workshop. I might not get it back! The car dealership is exploring the possibility of giving me a different vehicle. While I've already contacted my lawyer, I haven't given them any instructions to intervene in the process yet. Currently, the insurance company is willing to exchange the car (subject to conditions).
