Meanwhile, the car is 7 years old, and in this case, a new car is being purchased instead of trying to keep the old one running. This is simply uneconomical.

The repair doesn't really make much sense.

Alternatively, a complete exchange unit could be used.

Cost is 6k if I install it for free! icon_sad.gif

It's a real dilemma.

Hello Rainer, I understand that the proposal may not be scientifically sound and could potentially be quite large.
Assuming I wanted to invest as little as possible, I thought that the lifespan would still be better with the edge extended outwards, rather than if the nozzle continued to spray onto the edge.

"Brabus" sounds like something for racing enthusiasts, expensive, and luxurious... but when I see this, with its extended pistons, I realize I'm in good company icon_twisted.gif.
You should definitely treat yourself to a new piston.

I think adapting pistons to a power box is a bit like carrying owls to Athens. icon_biggrin.gif The shape of the recesses is also an essential design element of the piston itself. Removing the box and using pistons in series form seems more straightforward. A well-executed performance increase doesn't necessarily have to be achieved through adjusting valve timing. Of course, all within the limits of the system.

I also posted those photos to warn about the dangers of extending injection times in common rail engines.

The engine needs 4 pistons and a new cylinder head. At that point, it would also make sense to recondition and replace the bearings. If you're already working on the chain drive, turbine, and high-pressure pump, you might as well consider investing in a replacement engine.

Brabus sounds like it's about high performance, expensive, and luxurious things...

Brabus, however, is more of a makeshift operation when it comes to engines; they assemble engines that are essentially doomed to fail prematurely. The abnormally high piston speeds and thin cylinder walls due to boring, etc., all contribute to this.
No wonder the diesel boxes are also considered 'cheap.'

Carlsson, on the other hand, has established itself as an excellent tuner for Mercedes-Benz diesel engines.

Without knowing for sure, I would say that the C-Tronic from Carlsson does the same thing.

However, it has some 'protective features,' such as the extra power only being available when the engine oil is warm, etc.

However, increased performance with warmer engine oil does not protect against problems caused by cold engine conditions, and in the aforementioned case, it would not have saved the pistons.

"No offense intended, but I wouldn't write anything negative about a product without knowing its functions."

Best regards to everyone.

P.S.: The Brabus is running again with new pistons and a reworked cylinder head. icon_biggrin.gif
