The goal here is simply to reverse the installation orientation. And that's not always easy (unless the loader is designed for it -> see datasheet!).

I still can't quite understand it. I used to calculate plain bearings before, but the orientation wasn't a parameter in those cases. Of course, if a bearing is only loaded by the rotor mass, the direction of that force matters, but that's not the case here. We should quickly do some calculations to get a rough estimate, but it's not trivial.

I didn't say that a lawnmower has plain bearings; I was only referring to the bearings of the crankshaft.

Why is this not the case here?
So, you're assuming that your engine will never be turned off and that the turbocharger will run continuously?

Then your statement is correct.

This concerns long-term durability. This includes start and stop operations.

Since the turbocharger mentioned above comes from an industrial engine, I even suspect that start-stop cycles are less of a concern in this application. These engines (and their components) are designed for continuous operation.

This means that in normal operation, no axial forces act on the rotor of the heating pump. Combined with the poor lubricating effect of water, this would inevitably lead to wear if the shaft is misaligned.

Conversely, the charger always experiences an axial load, and the tilt angle is already significantly limited due to oil drainage. If the axial force increases by only a few percentage points as a result, that shouldn't be a problem. Others increase power and often also boost pressure through data manipulation, which in turn increases the bearing load.
I'm not trying to rotate the ATL by 90 degrees.

The problem isn't really the bearings themselves. As mentioned earlier, the issue is the general mounting position with regard to oil drainage. If the axis is tilted, the oil may not drain properly, or at all. This can then lead to oil coking or oil leakage into a flow housing.
