Is there no heated windshield available for the T4? Just like Ford has been offering it for all vehicle types for years, and like VW is finally offering it, at least for the Passat 3C...
You can simply use a relay to switch it on, and you don't have to worry about fire hazards or anything like that. The defrosting process is also wonderfully even.
If you happen to still have partial casco insurance... *oops* I won't say anything.

Unfortunately, that's not available for the T4.
P.S. Did it already exist in the 3BG, or only starting with the 3C? MfG. Michael

"And what about a used Thermotop from a scrapyard, or a self-built GSM remote control? You could get it for around €200 and even have more comfort." I did something similar to my car back then, and it's still working perfectly... AMAZING!!!

A very inexpensive solution would also be the Defa PTC interior heater.
I have something similar in my Passat, and right now it's currently heating up.

It costs little and doesn't require regular major maintenance.

That's exactly the problem with it. I've also thought about something similar, but unfortunately, my car is about 50 meters away from the house. I'm just going to try to get the PTC element working. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to go with a stand-alone heater. MfG. Michael

Okay, so it's option 2 after all. If I apply voltage to the two terminals, it works.

Hello!
Here are some questions regarding this: How long? Until what heating or component temperature? What is the power consumption and type of current for the curve? And what about the "diagnostic line" or the third [item]? Is the PIN currently unavailable?
...I absolutely can't imagine that two ICs and a FET (or similar) power driver would be included for free, because this kind of component should always be used generously and abundantly.
What I'm more inclined to believe is that during the tests, you might have created a "permanent" electrical connection, bypassing the initial component. Blick works - but now, without any limitations whatsoever...

So, after 30 seconds, I stopped because my 1.5mm² test cable was already warmer than the PTC element. MfG. Michael

Okay, grab a large battery with an ammeter and connect the device as you've determined, for at least half an hour.
I'm very curious to see how the "PTC" characteristics manifest .

Actually, you don't really need any external regulation. A PTC resistor regulates itself. That's why it's called a PTC resistor. In principle, it's nothing more than a glow plug. It doesn't necessarily need to be externally regulated, and theoretically, it could glow forever as long as the cooling is adequate. MfG. Michael

Okay, please explain to me this "semiconductor garbage" that the developers had to cram in here again, when a simple relay apparently can't do the job?!
No, there has to be much more to it than that... PWM power control via CAN or something like that - I'm not entirely sure how it works.
Therefore, my request: Trying is BETTER *wink* than studying!

Sure, the idea is that it shouldn't always run at 100%, but rather adjust its performance based on how it's being used.

Yes, the PTC units without electronics have three heating circuits that can be switched separately via relays. The generator load is also taken into account in this process. The PTC characteristic provides a degree of inherent safety, for example, when the airflow is unintentionally too low. Gruß Christian

My guess: The polarity of the voltage is reversed.
The PTC wouldn't mind. The power drivers are likely equipped with freewheeling diodes that, in the event of reverse polarity, continuously supply power to the PTC resistor.
Whether the rest of the electronics survived depends on the rest of the circuit. The amount of current that the flyback diodes can handle depends on the power driver being used.
Best regards,
Guste.
