I've already shared some of my experiences (regarding the old system).

Does anyone have any information about the catalytic converter (KAT), or more specifically, to what extent the coating of the DPF contributes to the burning-off process?

The coating will inevitably wear down, and some material will likely be flushed out during the backwash process. The question then becomes whether the catalytic converter will still function properly, and whether its passive regeneration process will lose effectiveness.

But generally speaking, I think you can only lose if you immediately install a new one without even trying to flush it.

I'm excited icon_wink.gif.

Mine is approaching its third cycle. There are still 33,000 km to go.

Post10-05-2010, 15:26    Subject: DPF Removal vs. Cleaning: Which is Best? Quote

Hello.

I've been following this discussion for a while, and I've also been thinking about cleaning my filter.
I still have a few questions about it.
My Passat (BMR) has now reached 170,000 km and has an ash content of 53, so a cleaning process would definitely be beneficial.
What's the best way to proceed? Should I use a high-pressure washer to flush it out, or just rinse it with a stream of water from the tap?
Is it more efficient to flush in the direction of the exhaust flow or against it?
Is there a guide anywhere online that shows how to remove the filter, and what's the best way to do it?
I hope someone here has some answers.

Hello,

Of course, you have to flush it in the opposite direction, otherwise very little will come out.

Best regards, Rainer.

I wouldn't use a pressure washer either, as the jet could be too strong.

I took a garden hose and made a plug using rags and tape. While running water through it, I vigorously shook the DPF. (It gave me a good muscle ache).

Unfortunately, I can't help with the expansion work; I had the workshop do that as part of the ZR replacement.

have fun icon_wink.gif

Thale is actually a nice area, and I occasionally go there on weekends icon_smile.gif.

Okay, thanks for the information. I actually wanted to start working on it this week, but it's supposed to rain all week, and since I always work in the garden and there's no roof, I'll probably have to postpone the project for a bit.
Does it produce a lot of visible ash?

I also occasionally go to Braunschweig, where my sister lives.

Best regards from Thale.

In my case, it was visibly noticeable, but my filter is only at 150g of capacity, as I still have the additive system installed.

They were small, red/pink pieces.

The channels are quite narrow, and when you shake it, a lot of material comes out. That's why it takes a while.
