As mentioned before, try to absorb any spilled fuel with absorbent material ("leieren" in this context likely refers to using absorbent material).

Once the fuel starts flowing back through the return line, the fuel injector lines need to be bled to remove any trapped air.

Part 1 of the assumption is completely correct, but I can only guess about part 2 .

I've already run the reverse cycle, but the pump couldn't generate enough suction or achieve a higher speed to actually pump anything.

I know that the pumps aren't exactly the same. However, I found someone on Mecki's forum who has the same pump in their B4 and provided me with the pinout diagram for the connector so I can rewire it. The only difference seems to be the connector.

I'm going to contact the seller now; the pump was advertised as being "fully functional."
