1.8T mit vielen km, welches Öl fahren | Posts 16+

So, yesterday was the day. The oil change was due, and there were also several other small jobs to be done (new exhaust, dual temperature sensor replaced, air conditioning compressor replaced...).

First, we poured in LM Motorclean and let the engine idle for 10 minutes.
After that, the oil was drained.

Then, it went straight to the oil pan.
And what can I say...

What emerged didn't look nearly as bad as expected.
The tub wasn't really dirty, but it did have some sediment buildup. But it stays within reasonable limits.

The oil filter screen still looked quite good. It wasn't completely verschandeln anymore, though. That's why we installed a brand new part from VW for €13.

I then resealed the oil pan with silicone sealant. It wasn't easy to keep the sealing surfaces permanently free of oil and grease, though. It actually turned out quite well.

The engine was now filled with MOBIL1 0W40 New Life oil.
It's already noticeably working better. I'm curious to see how it performs after the next oil change at 15,000 km.

Unfortunately, the oil pressure gauge didn't work out. The workshop didn't have the correct adapter, so the measurement was invalid.

Well, it doesn't look too bad, it seems the oil has been changed regularly. I see on the oil pan that the oil level sensor is missing, which is a good thing because it means the engine doesn't have a "long-life" oil service requirement. Let us hear it if you suspect you are still hearing noises.

It looks really good for 190,000 km.
I can show you some pictures of a really heavily modified 1.8T tomorrow.

Here are the pictures. The vehicle had driven 107,000 kilometers at that time.

The filter was almost completely clogged. The motor was then completely cleaned, and the filter was replaced. "Has been using 5W-40 oil since then."
Recently, the same problem occurred again after 30,000 km: the strainer was clogged, resulting in no oil pressure. However, this time, the engine and oil pan looked much better. The sieve has been replaced again, I think that hopefully things will be quiet now.

That looks really bad!
If the engine has only run for 110,000 km. What happened to him that he looks like this?

P.S. The oil filter screen was clogged to about 1/3 with a black, very hard material. It couldn't be cleaned out even with brake cleaner.
But luckily (thanks to Michael's tip ), I had bought a new cable.

Well, don't ask me. The customer bought the car from a private seller, and two weeks later, he had the problem that the red oil light kept coming on.
Short and sweet: I can't tell you. I suspect the oil change intervals are significantly overestimated.

Oil filter housing: I was planning to replace it on my car. I still have a new one lying around. If you want, I can check if the one from ATD also fits in the 1.8T. As far as I remember, yes...

As mentioned before, it costs around 9 euros new, plus the cost of the sealing ring. I just found a "Musses" part in the storage box in the basement. I bought it at the beginning of the year along with the sealing ring, but I didn't end up installing it. I considered the slightly leaking oil pan gasket to be "okay" and postponed dealing with the problem for now...
