OK, sure .
I think I'm going to put that 00 00 00 00 02 encoded BT, which is still floating around in the family, into mine.
Thank you for your help, Sebastian.
Greetings.

Ha ha...
It seems like the new control panel is trying to "participate" and be "economical."
This morning, the outside temperature was 3 degrees Celsius, and the car had been parked overnight. After starting, all the digits on the odometer disappeared except for 11000000.
Then, after just a few seconds, the display showed 10000000, and the auxiliary heater went from 00->01->10->11 and switched to full power.
Whether or not the AC is turned on doesn't matter.
Only "OFF" turns Bit 6 on again, and the heater turns off.
Overall, it's as it should be, just that it's noticeably more defensive than with the old control panel in the Golf.

So, it's the control panel software after all...

So, all in all, it's as it should be, only that it's noticeably more defensively tuned than the Golf with the old control panel. |
So it seems that the 5°C threshold that I mentioned earlier here also appears to be confirmed for the PTC.
Greetings.
Guste.

Hi.
The 5-degree threshold is clearly identifiable in bit _6_.
During my test drive with angles of 5, 4.5, 5, and 5.5 degrees, bit 7 did not change, but bit 6 did.
The auxiliary heater responded well to bit 6.

Hello Dieselmartin,
"For me, the relays for the electric auxiliary heater are also activating cleanly below 5°C ambient temperature. I haven't felt like logging it yet, but up to what coolant temperature does the auxiliary heater remain active? Have you happened to log that before?"
Have a nice weekend!
Dirk.

So, that means it's directly linked to the outside temperature? Does it also not turn off the cooling system at -10°C and 90°C coolant temperatures? That's actually what I wanted to ask, but I didn't phrase it very well. Sorry.

I haven't experienced temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius with the new control panel yet.

Back in the days of the Golf 3 (with the AHU engine), Wiesel once showed me the 2D data set of the coolant preheating glow plugs.
I suspect the PTCs in our 3C models are controlled in a very similar way. In the Golf, it was roughly like this:
Outdoor temperature: 5°C. Heating until the coolant reaches 50°C (I'm quite sure about that temperature).
Outdoor temperature: -20°C. Heating required to approximately 75°C coolant temperature.
I don't remember the exact ignition timing (KW) temperature at -20°C. I also don't recall the curve showing the relationship between temperature and ignition timing. What I do know for sure is that the longer the outside temperature, the shorter the glow plugs need to heat up.
It's possible that the PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater is controlled more intelligently in this case, using the desired interior temperature as a reference, which could allow for control via a 3D field. I'm not sure if the Climatronic system does this. However, it certainly won't be any dumber than in the Golf, where the PTC heater shuts off at fixed temperature settings regardless of the outside temperature.
Greetings.
Guste.

So, I've also been experimenting with this over the past few days. Here's what seems to be happening in my case:
General approval for PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heaters when the air temperature is below 5°C.
PTC operates up to ~70°C, with a 3-stage setting (small only, medium only, small and medium), even when both the car and the AC are turned off. The set temperature is 21.5°C.
Below approximately 70°C, the PTC heater will no longer activate; when the temperature drops below 70°C, the PTC heater will reactivate.
What I haven't figured out yet is whether the PTC heater will operate between 70 and 90 degrees Celsius when maximum heating power is required.
Everything is based solely on "acoustic measurement" of the relays, but they are quite audible.
Best regards,
