Hi,
I ordered a sealing gasket. It should arrive shortly.
How do you actually get that unspeakable triangular screw off?

With the nut that I have icon_wink.gif.

Oh friend, oh brother of my heart... icon_smile.gif

My measurement indicates that I need a 48-50mm M5 Allen screw as a replacement.
Is that okay? Then I'll go ahead and get them.

When are you planning to go to Frankfurt?

I just won a business trip to Turin... from Wednesday to Friday. By any chance, are you flying to Frankfurt on Saturday?

I also meant next Saturday, April 28th.
By then, the famous quote will surely be available. I suspect it's been circulating for a while now. I just haven't noticed it until now.

Hello.

May I briefly interrupt with a related question? I also have an ESP unit that I would like to repair for my car.

Here's what I've noted down regarding the procedure (thanks to the expert articles):

* Mark the position of the point machine, measure/read the track switch using software.
* Disassemble the pump.
* Found elsewhere: Inspect the pump for any traces of bolts that may have sheared off; check the pressure springs to ensure they are all the same length.

Then I was thinking of using new bearing bushings (I still need to figure out whether they should be 17mm or 20mm) – cleaning the pump thoroughly and reassembling it with new seals. I would then install the flow meter, adjust it, and measure its performance.

Are there any other tips you can offer regarding tasks that should be completed concurrently with the main work?

By the way, this is exactly the pump that has been making a rattling noise for years. It wasn't a major problem, and I would never have taken it apart just because of that. I'm only doing it now because it's extremely leaky.

Thank you.

I think that in your case, the problem might simply be that the turnout needs to be cleaned, and then the jerking should stop.

Hello,

Quote:
Are there any additional tips from your side on what else should be taken care of during the work process?

If you're already disassembling the pump, it would be a good idea to check the injector nozzle for signs of wear inside the housing. This type of wear can be expected, depending on the fuel used, and typically starts to appear around 250,000 kilometers.

"If the fuel injection system is malfunctioning, you may experience increased black smoke and power loss at higher engine speeds. Over time, this can lead to premature wear and failure of the pistons due to overheating on the edge of the combustion chamber."

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you.

There were no major problems with the pump itself. It was just producing a bit more smoke. And the car didn't start quite as smoothly as it should.
But I will also examine that very carefully. The question is always, what do you do if that is the case?

I don't have to reassemble this thing in one day, I have time for that. I will document any visible "damage" and bring it up for discussion here.

Certainly. Here's the translation:

"Thank you very much."

As I said, I will take a look and post again if I have anything to add.

However, apart from a slight hesitation, and a bit more soot (with the replacement pump, the car runs like it did on the first day) - the performance etc. was all excellent.
Due to the biodiesel used by the previous owner, there have been occasional leaks. These need to be fixed now.

Thank you for your input.

My pump is basically just meant to seal, so if I had happened to get a good replacement pump for the car, it would have lasted a long time – but it was a bit leaky.

"In my other car, the fuel injection system occasionally cuts out for about 1 second, accompanied by an error message that says 'Injector control value too low.' It's not a major issue, but I want to fix it by repairing the fuel pump, which I've already sealed."

Accordingly, I have two seals, and one of them seems to have a problem with the fuel injector nozzle - although this issue only occurred in conjunction with various other problems.

Hi,

Here's a small tip about the VP37...
Inside the pump, there is a roller bearing. Over time, the axles of the rollers wear into the pump housing to varying degrees.
You should also pay attention to these markings. I've only rebuilt two of these pumps so far, but these markings were clearly present on both of them. In my own pump, it was so severe that a noticeable ridge had formed. However, you can easily fix the housing with a Dremel or similar tool by smoothing out the edges of these markings.

Best regards,
Wool.

Thank you very much for the tip.

Does that mean that if you sand it down with a Dremel or similar tool, the pump will work properly again afterwards? Even with the indentation?

It might become clear, at the very latest, when you've seen what and how everything is moving there - I assume!

THX

Hi there,

@UweViewing profile: Uwe

I carefully smoothed the edges (mainly in the direction of the roller's rotation) and removed only as much material as absolutely necessary. A small wire brush for a Dremel worked best. The grinding stones were not suitable because they clogged up quickly with the aluminum.
After that, I thoroughly sprayed the pump with brake cleaner. This also helps to clean those few holes properly.
The pump has been working perfectly ever since. It's been about 130,000 kilometers now.
Total mileage now 490,000 km.

@HerbertViewing profile: Herbert

I still have several photos of the pump, but unfortunately, I don't have a usable one showing the condition after the work was done. You can get a vague idea of it in the image attached, in the bottom right corner.
I've attached a photo of a bearing ring (fortunately, not mine...) for reference. The bearing ring in the pump only swings a few degrees back and forth. The axles then leave the marks.

Unfortunately, I can't provide you with any written materials. I'm sorry. But the VP37 isn't rocket science.
If you remove the pump from the car and reattach the impeller, then place the pump upright in front of you, you can disassemble it quite easily.
However, in my opinion, VCDS should be available.

Best regards and good luck.
Wool.
