The problem is that all the plastic parts tend to develop slightly looser tolerances over time, whether due to a lot of movement or simply shrinkage. The cleanest solution is replacement. However, retrofitting a mechanical stop seems to provide stability even with older parts. While it's essentially a makeshift solution, it's a real alternative considering the high cost of replacement.
