Okay, I just thought that because the scan above was still being done with version 17.1.3.0 of the RKS software.

So, is it a faulty wiring harness?

I advised him to first get the RFK (Radio Frequency Kit) working properly by using outdoor cabling. That way, he would at least know if it functions at all.

According to what one reads, the wiring harnesses for retrofitting are sometimes a source of frustration...

Wasn't that from VW, or did I get that wrong?

Yes, everything is original VW. But the wiring harness is produced in the Czech Republic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I assume that's the case for now. The interesting question is who will pay for the effort involved, since he purchased the kit from the VW online shop.

Okay, things are getting interesting. Initially, the suspicion was that the infotainment system was defective. However, this was disproven because a unit from a Golf R was temporarily borrowed, and it didn't work with that either. Also, factory coding via ODIS didn't help. A faulty wiring harness can be ruled out.

The car has to stay in the workshop for another day so they can find the problem.

There's definitely a helpful and knowledgeable person involved here. You likely wouldn't be able to pinpoint the issue as accurately using other tools, and certainly not with simpler, home-based methods. VCDS would probably be required, and even then, it might be difficult to achieve the same level of precision.

I'm still curious to see what kind of error is there.

I'm already familiar with him from Rodgau. Out of all the ones I've "encountered" so far, he's been one of the better ones.

It's slowly becoming fatal.

So far, two infotainment systems have failed. It's likely due to excessive current flowing through a particular line. The problem has become so severe after VW installed what they claimed was the correct software version via online support. To allow the owner to retrieve his car today, the infotainment system in the Golf R was replaced.

Next week, a specialist from WB will be coming to thoroughly examine the issue. The suspicion is that the wiring harness may not be properly assembled. However, another unit from the existing stock produced the exact same result.

The T6 is here, but it's probably simpler because it's not that current in the timeline. @Rainer, if you need an Autoscan for a T6 with a factory camera, I can do it
