No, I have the original DCC suspension.

Yesterday, I checked the rear axle and couldn't find anything negative. All the Sharans I see have a negative camber on the rear axle. I'm now quite sure that this is intentional from the factory. It certainly has something to do with driving stability and straight-line tracking.

Both sides show the same wear pattern.

I'm very cautious about that. My colleague just had a professional survey done for his Golf R... I'd rather not do that myself. icon_cool.gif

That's why I also wrote "serious." Of course, there are plenty of incompetent people in the field, but there are also enough who are capable and know what they're doing.

It can hardly get much worse. icon_eek.gif I would not be satisfied with the current state of affairs in any way.

All the Sharans I see have negative camber on the rear axle. I am now certain that this is intentionally designed from the factory. It certainly has something to do with driving stability and straight-line running.

Negative camber is used to ensure that the tire contact patch on the outermost wheel remains at a maximum of 100% when the vehicle is leaning during cornering. Furthermore, most axles are designed such that the camber changes further towards negative as the suspension compresses. This becomes problematic with excessive negative camber.
...and approximately -2 degrees is certainly 100% more than approximately -1 degree, even though both values are within the manufacturing tolerances... The same applies to the toe-in. It's possible that both values are at the upper tolerance limit.

For straight-line driving, you essentially only need the same track width on both sides at the rear. It's important to note that when cornering, the outer wheel takes over the tracking, as soon as the grip of the outer wheel is greater than that of the inner wheel. In theory, the inner wheel would then be sliding. The rear axle compensates for this by adjusting the track width through differences in the length of the control arm and tie rod during suspension compression and rebound, within a certain range.

Your observation indicates that there is an imbalance somewhere within the system consisting of the vehicle, wheels, tires, average load, and driving profile.
The fact is, you're smoothing out the rough edges.

Imagine you are tasked with permanently fixing this issue without making any constructive modifications to the vehicle.

How would you proceed?

It's difficult to determine beforehand who actually works with precision, because according to their own advertising, they are all the best.

I will probably go directly to Volkswagen. I need some time to think about it.

First, just measure the vertical and horizontal alignments, don't start modifying anything right away. And then, you could bring the measurement report here.
The potential pitfalls are the rim strike compensation and the measurement of front toe-in.

Yesterday, I had an appointment for measurement and adjustment icon_mad.gif new_cry.gif icon_evil.gif.

I received this appointment from a colleague who is responsible for the company's vehicle fleet. The expert is located in Darmstadt.

After waiting for approximately 45 minutes, I was finally allowed to proceed to the axle testing station.

1. Statement from an expert:
I don't know why the front right camber always differs from the left by 1 degree on VW vehicles. We observe this on our test bench.
2. Statement from an expert:
I'm not sure if it's even possible to adjust the rear camber that much. And after that, the alignment will also need to be adjusted. We'll need to schedule a new appointment for that.
3. My observation:
The first version was called Touran, not Sharan.
4. Statement from an expert:
At Volkswagen, the values are all the same for all models.

Now you know why I refused. And my feeling was correct.

Result:
I lost €121 at a professional gambling site and have an appointment with Volkswagen next Friday.

Now I have received the survey report icon_confused.gif.

I'm not sure if "standard suspension" is the correct term. My car has the DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) system installed.

I contacted Volkswagen and was lucky enough to speak with the person who had performed the measurements.

His statements:
The misaligned rear axle was the main cause of tire wear.
2. Adjusting the headlight alignment is only complicated on the Sharan 7N model. The wheels need to be removed in order to adjust the screw. This needs to be reported to the car's computer system, as the vehicle needs to be lifted. Depending on one's skill level, this procedure may need to be repeated.
3. If the alignment is correct and the vehicle's tilt is within the manufacturer's tolerance, the tire will not wear unevenly.

I'm not quite sure what to make of statement number 2 yet.
Viele Grüße
Andreas

DCC has different target values than the standard suspension. The differences are only about 10 units apart when initially viewed, which is within the tolerance range of each respective suspension system. However, even though the differences are small, the limits are still different, and what might be acceptable for one suspension system could already be outside the acceptable range for another.

VW offers a total of three parameter sets: Base, BlueMotion, and DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) Sport. This likely depends primarily on the different ride heights.

I've never adjusted the suspension myself before, but the Volkswagen manual doesn't mention removing the wheels. It essentially says:
Loosen the upper ball joint from the strut mount and adjust the camber by turning the eccentric bolt. I would suggest you take a look at that to see if you need to remove the wheels first.
