Hi!
Did you check the handbrake cables during the repair?
Can it be done easily?
Normally, that's how I've always done it.
In this type of repair, I first loosened the handbrake cables at the coarse adjustment point at the front, turning them quite loose. That also makes the assembly a little easier.
Then I reinstalled the brake components, drove the car around the workshop a bit, and tested the brakes.
And finally, as the very last step, the handbrake cables were adjusted.
You could also try to push the brake caliper pistons back into place by inserting a screwdriver through a hole in the wheel bolts, or disconnect the handbrake cables.
and to try to readjust things.
Grüße, Steffen!

Similar to that, I recently acquired an Audi A2 1.4 TDI that I plan to use for commuting. It's already registered, but I'm repairing it piece by piece, from front to back. I'm doing this while it's in operation because my daughter needs the previous car as a temporary replacement.
"The brakes were making noises when applying them from the rear, and there was play in the lever. According to the service record, they were renewed in 2018, so they shouldn't be worn out. The usual problem is rust buildup on the drums and compressed return springs, as seen in this post. The rest of the brake system seems to be okay. I've ordered Audi original brake cables, and I think that if those are replaced, the brakes should work perfectly."

Hi!
Yes, that's a good idea; don't skimp on the handbrake cables. I learned that too.
Sometimes, the cheap ones don't quite fit the right length, and the small rubber cuffs tend to crumble quickly, especially if they don't fit properly in the first place.
Then water gets in, which leads to rot, and in the winter, they freeze.

"With our Galaxy, we've almost had the problem of freezing every year. In 2017/18, it was with TRW brake lines, and currently, it's with ATE brake lines installed in December 2018, where the grommets are failing very quickly... it's absolutely disgusting."
I recently installed some cheap cables in my daughter's Lupo, out of necessity because they were lying around, ATEC garbage.
The installation of the A2 is a bit more complicated compared to the Galaxy, so I preferred to source original equipment (OE) parts. And that unsightly little aluminum ball is meant to stay with us for the long term.
