"They told you the turbocharger pressure is correct, right?" It wouldn't hurt to have it verified by a second, independent workshop.
Otherwise, things get complicated: If the device has only lost its memory, a new chip would fix it. It's like chip tuning, but using only original software. That shouldn't be a problem for your trusted chip tuner.
Repairing can be difficult. I've never opened up an engine control unit (ECU) before, but I've heard that some components are installed without any markings (BMW). Without a wiring diagram, you can essentially only look for obviously burnt or loose components. To do this, you would have to take the ECU to some small radio and TV repair shop.
