@ Warlord

When the 1Z is in emergency mode, nothing lights up. icon_mad.gif

@dieselmartin

I already exchanged mine too. The new one makes the same amount of noise (I would describe it more as rattling) as the old one. Sometimes it does it even when the car is stationary, sometimes it doesn't...

@Dirk-16

So, should I just apply lubricant to the area where the shaft goes into the loader? I should really push the lubricant in there, right? About how long would that last?

Best regards, WarLord.

@ Doc and Dirk

I definitely had the turbocharger wastegate valve in my hand!

http://people.freenet.de/golf-schrauber/Magnetventil.jpg

It rattles even when I just turn the ignition on (i.e., the engine is not running!!!).

I've already had LEDs on it, and they're powered on while the vehicle is stationary (it's weird, but that's how it is).

The AGR valve is silent.

Currently, I have it wrapped in foam and secured with duct tape, but icon_cry.gif it hasn't helped.

Three different Volkswagen dealerships have three different opinions: one says "it's normal," another says "it's slowly breaking down," and the third says "it's broken."

And electrical parts are excluded from returns, so I can't try to see if a new one is quieter... (I read that in another forum, where someone said a new one [for an Audi] was silent).

Do yours also rattle when stationary?

Das macht meins nicht. Never!

same here.

What's the point? So you don't hear the noise anymore?

Yes, I've had that experience too. The opinions about it vary widely... icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, but I already posted that. As I said, it's not always like that...
I'm just going with what works for me, and I don't really care as long as it's functional.

@dieselmartin

Mine rattles too, even when the engine is off (meaning only the ignition is on).

Best regards, WarLord.

Aloha everyone!
Based on my experience, I can say that the wastegate valve is still working as long as it rattles. HOWEVER: I've read (here) that rattling even when the ignition is on can indicate a defect, and in that case, replacing it helped. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to that information; I'm currently searching a lot about engine misfires because I'm trying to help my uncle with his TDI misfire (Audi B4 1Z, year 1994). So, I've only read about it...
Based on my reading experience, I'd like to point out that the mass airflow sensor (MAF) could also have a loose connection, right? The errors and symptoms seem to indicate a problem with the MAF sensor, or have I misunderstood something?

Best regards,
Torsten.
