Hello, I've done a little research. The AJM engine was only produced in the Passat until May 2002.
This will give you an extension of 30,000 km, bringing your service interval to 90,000 km.
I'm still looking for the part numbers.

Thank you for the information.
Do you happen to know why absolutely no one seems to know about this at Volkswagen and the workshops?
So, I now have 120,150 kilometers on the odometer, which means I'm over the limit!
Hopefully, the new parts have already arrived; I've listed the part numbers above.
It would be great if it were possible to assign each item to a new or old category!
See you later for now.
Regards,
Thorsten.

Okay, it's finally here! I've been browsing around today and found the following:
Maintenance interval: 90,000 km, engine code AJM.
Part number: 038105263f. Item: Crankshaft pulley. Price: (10.65).
045105229 Central screw (1.75)
045105243c Tensioner (61.10)
045109244a Deflection roller (26.25)
038121011cx Wapu (41.55)
045109479b Damper (70.30)
038 109119p Timing belt (56.50)
038109454a Mother (?)
That comes to €268.10 plus a 'fairytale tax,' which brings the total to approximately €312.

Hello mersente, and thank you very much for the information!
Here comes the bombshell!!!:
'Der schnelle braune Fuchs springt über den faulen Hund.'
You won't believe this.
But I've managed to get one from VW now.
Information: It definitely won't work! / It is absolutely not possible!
Maintenance interval: AJM 60,000 km!
The guy was directly from the VW customer service hotline.
He had asked several times if he was really sure, and then he supposedly asked again... Answer: That's not possible!
Do the parts actually fit? And is it a 'wide timing belt' (I've only heard that term before)?
Can the dealership use these Volkswagen part numbers?
My workshop can order the parts, but it would probably be difficult to return them afterwards!
Thank you for the numbers!
Regards,
Thorsten.

Do you happen to know if the serpentine belt is a Conti (I think it's the C1021 model)?
My workshop can order the parts, but it would probably be difficult to return them afterwards!

What kind of technical information would you expect a telephone operator to provide?
'Doesn't your workshop have both belts in stock? Then you can directly compare them because of the teeth and other features...'
Regards,
Manuel.

I think I might be having a similar problem with the maintenance interval on my 2000 AMF (see: /viewtopic.php?t=5169).
My Volkswagen inquiry has been ongoing for over a month (and I keep getting the runaround).
Based on the VW part numbers, I can only determine that the shock absorber has been changed; otherwise, all the VW numbers are the same.
60,000 is a bit too low for the exchange interval.
I find it really unfortunate that no one seems to know whether the "modified" parts will actually fit on the older engines. I would be willing to replace everything, including the sprocket.
Regards,
Olaf.
P.S.
Unfortunately, the workshop also doesn't have any in stock. With them, you usually just encounter a lack of understanding (and this happens to me with at least 5 Volkswagen workshops).

Hi,
I wouldn't focus too much on the timing belt and the drive system.
At least for the AXR, other PD elements were introduced that exert a significantly lower load on the ZR drive. We are talking about a power reduction of 30%, while still achieving better performance (atomization...).
Throughout the series, such a change might also have affected the AJM engine, and it was only in conjunction with the new ZR drivetrain that the maintenance interval of 90,000 km resulted. Gruß Bertil

Yes, Bertil, what you said about the other PD elements might be correct. (I'll check that.)
Regarding Thorsten: Yes, the parts mentioned are Volkswagen part numbers and will also fit your vehicle.
Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the 'Cont' belt.

I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about the Cont belt.
@mersente
Thank you so much again!
I finally received the request I've been eagerly waiting for from an official VAG workshop this evening:
The quotation essentially repeats the numbers you provided.
Extended service interval: 90,000 km for engine code AJM. ===================================
Service interval at 90,000 km for engine type AJM.
045109244a Deflection roller (€26.25)
038109454a Mother (0.84)
038 109119p Timing belt (€56.50) (N was the old part number, P is definitely the new, reinforced version).
045105243b Tensioner pulley (€61.10)
(However, I was told that the index for the pulley was (b), not (c)!
038121011cx Wapu (41.55)
'Der schnelle braune Fuchs springt über den faulen Hund.'
The crankshaft pulley, damper, and central screw were not included.
Here's the information again: this issue only applies to the first models, where the part was more prone to loosening! Part number: 038105263f Crankshaft pulley (€10.65).
045105229 Central screw (1.75)
045105243c Tensioner pulley (61.10)
045109479b Damper (70.30)
'Der schnelle braune Fuchs springt über den faulen Hund.'
In addition, they also have...
038 903 137 T 1 K-Rippriem (13.50) (My old one had index H!)
and
06B 260 849 A 1 K-Rib Belt (€12.50) (identical to my old one).
offered.
I assume one of the belts is for my Climatronic system.
The estimated cost is 570.53 euros.
approximately €280 for installation costs.
I hope this helps some AJM drivers so that they can...
The development costs of Volkswagen will not be passed on to the customer!
So long .
Thorsten.

Hello,
What about a Golf IV with the AJM engine (manufactured in October 1999)? Are there different part numbers for that engine, or are they the same? It would be great if someone could help me with this.
Regards,
Tobias.

Hello mersente,
Thank you for the quick response. Is it absolutely necessary to replace the water pump when using the new timing chain kit, or is it only done to rule out another potential source of damage?
I once tried to unravel the history of Conti-AJM timing belts.
Initially, the ZR CT 948 was installed; this was replaced in December 2002 by the CT 1021 (modified version). The OE part number is listed as 038 109 119 N , but shouldn't it actually be 'p'?
There is also a kit available for this belt, the CT 1021 K1, which includes three rollers with the part numbers 55489, 55465, and 55715.
The belt will be replaced by the CT 1028 in the future.
On the 'Kit Assignment List'.
http://www.contitech.de/ct/contitech/themen/produkte/antriebsriemen/kfz_ersatz/docs/liste_kit_pkw_2003.pdf
It's on page 50.
AJM, AUY 12/98-06/01 CT 1021 K1
AJM, AUY 12/98-06/01 CT 1021 K2
I thought that the K1 required the AJM, while the K2 needed the AUY .
Regards,
Tobias.

Hi Tobias, I would replace the water pump along with it. Otherwise, the original one would have to last for approximately 150,000 km, which I highly doubt. Especially due to the high tension on the timing belt, the strain on the water pump bearing is enormous.

Precisely because of the high tension of the timing belt, the load on the water pump bearing is enormous.
Hello mersente,
That is understandable.

Tobias.
