No matter how good or precise the tolerances are, they are called "tolerances" because they only approximate the exact measurement. When a maximum tolerance meets a minimum tolerance, there can be some leeway. Of course, you don't need to push a car for a thousand kilometers, but I would also never drive a car at full throttle right from the start. Because I've also driven a few brand new VWs, I always take it easy for the first 1000 kilometers. Okay, because I often travel all over Germany, it could potentially be done in 2 days with careful planning.
What I actually wanted to say is: how can you tell if a car has insufficient power when it has been driven gently and conservatively? Why would a car that was only driven for the first few meters run better?
In my completely unimportant opinion, it can't hurt to drive politely, and if the engine is properly warm and has been running for a while, higher RPMs shouldn't be a problem. Longer distances are definitely better than many cold starts in the initial period.

At work, we also have different driving styles. One colleague likes to warm up the car quickly (sometimes the engine speed can reach 4,000 RPM). Apparently, the last car he had performed better than one driven by someone with a different, but normal, driving style. Personally, I prefer to warm up the cars gently and don't rev them up unnecessarily. I've also read several times that cars that were properly 'broken in' during the initial period perform better than those that were 'broken in' gently.

Best regards, WarLord.

It's possible that worn-out engines with a lot of play have slightly less friction, and therefore, once they're running, they spin more freely. But is that really something to strive for?
I also knew a fellow model builder who used to fill the cylinder with cigarette ash to help break it in.
