hmm...
I experienced strong vibrations with my old clutch, around 2500 RPM.
The springs in the vibration damper of the clutch were broken. This also caused a strong jerking when starting. It seems to be a common problem, as I know of several other vehicles with the same issue. Do you experience this jerking as well?

I also replaced the engine mounts a few days ago, and after that, I experienced much stronger vibrations, especially when idling. I then reinstalled the old ones because they were still in good condition.
Interestingly, almost all the rubber bushings and joints in my vehicle were defective, while the engine mounts were in perfect condition. Apparently, those things are quite durable.

Recently, I also replaced the fuel injectors, and since then, the 1Z engine has been running very smoothly.

You could try looking in the direction of the nozzles and the coupling.

Okay: Do you have a model manufactured in 1994 or later? If so, you could try reading the idle speed control data.
Have you ever had a compression test done? (Just to make sure a weak cylinder isn't causing the vibrations).

Hello wolfi,
'I also have that rattling noise in my Audi 80, but only occasionally!'
When it's there, it's almost impossible to start smoothly!
If I pull the handbrake firmly and properly disengage the clutch, icon_question.gif then it's gone, and I can start moving very smoothly.
So, I was thinking about the clutch, maybe some oil or something is getting on it?
This problem is most pronounced when the wheels are fully locked up, and in those situations, it almost always occurs.
What does the steering angle have to do with the clutch?

I just can't seem to figure this out.
I will definitely be replacing the motor and transmission mounts. Which manufacturers did you use?

Regards,
Sausage blinkers.

I had exactly the same symptoms! The only difference was that the jerking when starting was constant, which is why I ended up replacing the clutch.

Which manufacturers did you choose?

I only had the transmission bearings dipped, and I believe the manufacturer was Febi.
