Webasto:evil:, their capital boss:wink:.

The resale value of my car will soon be less than the cost of the good auxiliary heater.

My car was 10 years old when it got a heated seat installed...

It's not entirely pointless, because apparently the icy wind rushing past the radiator cools the engine down considerably, long before the thermostat opens.

Today, I covered about 80% of the radiator surface with cardboard – and sure enough, the thermometer started rising sooner than usual, and the engine also ran warmer than normal on my regular route in this freezing cold weather.

With the heater fan, I could easily keep the engine temperature below the 90° mark, which ruled out any unnoticed initial overheating (thanks to this #*&§"°$ plateau indicator).

For the 9N model, you only need to loosen two screws on the radiator grille for this procedure; the rest is held in place with clips.
The Torx screwdriver is always kept ready in the compartment, so that the cardboard can be quickly removed again if the engine happens to get really hot icon_razz.gif.

I heat with an Eberspacher icon_wink.gif.

but to avoid losing the original post completely.

I was at the Wasserkuppe this weekend. The machine was running at 90 degrees. Then I drove down to Gersfeld... the machine was cold... that's just how it is...

Heated seats are awesome...

Hello Gremlin,
Your experience reassures me!
In another post, it is claimed that during downhill driving, the compression of the intake air and internal friction within the engine cause it to reach operating temperature.
Years ago, my family and I drove home from the Ötz Valley, starting in Untergurgl. The engine was still cold when we were near Sölden!
Over the next few years, we would only drive about 4 kilometers up to Obergurgel, turn around, and head back home with a warmed-up engine.
Best regards,
Günther.

However, as also mentioned in the other thread, a problem is the wind that can overwhelm the effects of frictional and compression heat. Cardboard has an advantage in this regard. My coolant is also heated by the exhaust manifold and then cools down again when going downhill due to the road profile. As mentioned in the other thread, the waste heat performance is also affected by the interior heating system.

Perhaps we should make a thread out of it.

If it makes you feel better, it still runs at 115°F, even before the cooling fan is forced to start.

In another post, it is claimed that when going downhill, the compression of the aspirated air and internal engine friction cause the operating temperature to be reached.

I wouldn't completely rule that out. We partially heat the high-bay warehouse using waste heat from the compressed air compressors.
While a motor doesn't generate nearly as much waste heat (since the air re-expands), why not?
However, that won't work if I want my car to be at 25°C (77°F) and it's -5°C (23°F) outside.

Does my Galaxy (1.9L, 110 hp, manufactured in 07/1999, I believe it's an AFN engine) already have a glow plug heating system installed?
And if so, where is it located, and how can you tell if it's turned on?
Mine doesn't get warm either until I reach work (which is 17 km away), except when the interior fan is completely turned off.
Best regards, Roland.

Hello,
You can always remove more heat from the engine in winter than it generates!
Best regards,
Günther.

Hi Günther,
Even without an internal fan, the engine might just barely reach the end of the white temperature range, meaning it's still running 'cold.'
I once read something about 'styling' glow plug heaters, but first I need to know if I even have one. Is there a picture of what it looks like?
Best regards, Roland.
