The problems seem to have been identified. However, the best insights are useless if no one implements them.

NSL:

I also get annoyed every day by people who are driving with the navigation system set to "avoidance of toll roads" (NSL), even though it's neither necessary nor permitted. I sometimes go so far as to flash my lights at drivers in particularly egregious cases, hoping they will turn off the NSL setting. It's absolutely incomprehensible to me!

Daytime running lights:

As described here, I think it's absolutely a good idea!

Fog lights:

I don't have any. I had them on the vehicle for years, but then removed them because a) they were causing liquid leakage and b) there was no need for them. But honestly, if someone is driving in summer with a trailer... well, it should be allowed!

Now, someone just needs to suggest these proposals, perhaps to the ADAC?
Perhaps someone reading this knows the right person to contact regarding these matters?

"Innovations":

Now that cars are generally reliable, largely safe, offer a sporty driving experience, and don't necessarily have to be expensive or impractical, the automotive industry needs to find new selling points.
Well, you can't attract many potential buyers with a 2.5-ton V10 bi-turbo engine. Since we've already seen all of this before, we need new ideas, whether we want them or not. Of course, that's just one opinion. (I only mentioned it because that's actually the topic of this thread.)

Best regards,
Thomas.

Regarding the National Security Law:

Many drivers confuse the switch for the rear window defroster with the one for the windshield wipers, because on some vehicles they are located next to each other, and the symbols are easily mistaken. They then wonder why it takes so long for the rear window to clear up, and why other drivers are so annoyed...

Oh yeah, those are probably the same people who confuse the brake and accelerator pedals.

"Really? I've never heard such a lack of understanding towards the technical equipment that I and others rely on to keep our lives safe."

So, let's get rid of the toolbox icon_wink.gif (STS-126).

To the idiots in front of me who mercilessly turn on their high beams at the slightest hint of fog and drive just fast enough (depending on traffic conditions) that I can barely overtake them without risk, I wish they would all have an electronic speed limiter that kicks in at 50 km/h whenever they turn on their high beams, because the legal situation is quite clear:

Section 17, paragraph 3 of the Road Traffic Regulations:
Fog lights are only permitted to be used when visibility is reduced to less than 50 meters due to fog.

§ 3 Paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO):
If the visibility is reduced to less than 50 meters due to fog, snowfall, or rain, the driver may not drive faster than 50 km/h.

Conclusion:
Anyone who drives faster than 50 km/h with their navigation system turned on is either a reckless driver or is using their navigation system in a prohibited manner.

In vehicle electronics, a forced linkage like "NSL on -> Vmax = 50 km/h" could allow (almost) anyone to easily overtake those slow-moving vehicles ("dunstblender"), instead of having their retinas burned by the red lights they emit. And for those who want to drive faster than 50, they simply need to dim their rear lights: this would be a genuinely useful mandatory feature (unlike the standard electronic comfort gadgets).

The annoying thing about the Near-Surface Layer (NSL) is its high contrast with the dark surroundings.

As a quick fix, I recommend brightening the surrounding area.
Move the left steering column lever to the "emergency assist" position (push forward), and the near-side lane assist of the vehicle in front will no longer be perceived as particularly intrusive. icon_twisted.gif

Oh dear, I can already see hordes of cars slowing down on the highway, all heading to dealerships to complain about a defect.

No, better!
He is committing a speeding violation! icon_twisted.gif
Using the NSL incorrectly is "only" a minor offense, but exceeding the speed limit by (e.g.) 50 km/h outside of urban areas is more serious! icon_rolleyes.gif
I've personally witnessed a driver being penalized for that very reason during a traffic stop.

Oh my gosh, you guys...

I don't want to take away the fun you have in complaining, but have you ever thought about other countries? In many countries, the regulations regarding fog lights are similar to those in Germany, specifically concerning NSL versus NSW. There, fog lights can be used with any type of visibility impairment caused by fog, snow, and rain.

"And even with some unfavorable weather conditions, such as light fog with visibility exceeding 50 meters and heavy drizzle on the highway, I don't think it's so bad. In Germany, no one drives slower than 50 km/h, and the use of navigation speed limiters is officially prohibited. However, many foreigners use them when they drive slower than average (e.g., Danes who like to overtake trucks at 100 km/h here in Schleswig-Holstein). In such cases, I believe the use of navigation speed limiters is justified, even though German law prohibits it."

Therefore, free yourselves from German laws and think more internationally icon_wink.gif.

Of course, I also agree with you that there is often a pointless or accidental use of these features (especially among older people), and I don't think that's good either.

But I think that the entire topic of NSL has been narrowed down to a very specific issue by Bertil in what was originally quite a broad post.

Regards,
Sure.

Here is the translation of the text from German to English:

I have to agree with Guste here.

"Usually, these drivers who use the HOV lane also annoy me."

However, the other day when I was driving on the highway in that awful rain ("the world is ending" kind of rain), EVERYONE (including those with green and white cars!!) agreed:

"Following the speed limit, maintaining a safe distance, and slowly cruising along at 80 km/h. I've never experienced such orderly and well-behaved driving on the Autobahn."

Sometimes, it's best to simply use things with common sense and let the law be the law.

Okay, as good as the headlights are: What I always wonder is why they aren't turned off when the car in front sees that I'm now directly behind them?! Then they just blind you without providing any additional benefit.

I always shift gears to a lower gear as soon as the car behind me gets too close.

When the rear fog light is activated, the maximum permitted speed is also limited to 50 km/h. Most people who have their rear fog lights on while driving at speeds of 150 km/h or more seem to forget that.

Because most drivers are just as overwhelmed by "thinking about the person behind" as a VAG workshop is with TDI turbocharger pressure problems.icon_evil.gif

Some people claim that a TDI engine with low performance is old icon_lol.gif. There will probably soon be a fully automatic speed limiter because many people are simply too stupid icon_eek.gif.
