Quote: | | Can someone tell me something about the difference between Sachs Super Touring and Advantage shock absorbers for a standard suspension system? |
I proactively installed the Advantage components in my vehicle at 205,000 km because I had to replace the upper control arms. I thought it would be a good idea to replace the shock absorbers at the same time.
The perceived difference between the new Advantage shocks and the standard shocks with 205,000 km already on them was almost zero; perhaps they were slightly firmer, but nothing more.
Based on what I've seen, the Super Touring tires seem too soft for my needs.
Good night.

Hmm, oh dear, now I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother doing anything at all. No shock absorber ever stops losing oil, and I was hoping that by replacing the rear spring and damper, I could get a slightly stiffer suspension compared to the old parts with 160,000 km / 8 years on them.
If you're not noticing much difference with the Advantage tires after 205,000 km, I probably won't achieve what I'm aiming for; it will just be a waste of money.
I very rarely experience any cracking or creaking sounds, and it's not reproducible, so the handlebars etc. might still be okay.

No matter how much they cost, they're worth it! I have Koni yellow shocks all around (cartridge type in the front), and they hold up great - even on our rough roads. The handling and agility have improved significantly, and they make driving fun even with only 68 horsepower...

Hi there,
I currently have feathers here, as well as Sachs Advantage shock absorbers, etc.
Is it normal for the gas pressure in these gas-filled dampers to be relatively low?
I can easily push the rod in, and it then slowly retracts on its own. There is a clear oil ring visible at the top of the rod.
You're welcome, haithamina.

It is normal for gas pressure dampers to extend fully when in the extended state.
If you compress and release the shock absorber several times, will it become stiffer? If so, is that due to the horizontal mounting of the damper in the shelf?

Hello Steffen,
Placing it vertically and inserting the rod twice immediately results in greater resistance when compressing it, so apparently the horizontal orientation has an effect as you described.
The actual speed at which it extends doesn't change noticeably.
It's probably also normal (?), since the temperature increases during driving and when the shock absorber is in use, which would result in a higher gas pressure.
I usually only work with air suspension systems on mountain bikes. These don't have springs, but rather two pressure chambers for compression and rebound damping (around 8 bar).

Here's another fun experiment: Try this with shock absorbers that were left outside overnight in significantly (i.e., below freezing) temperatures...

If you ever install this set yourself, I'd be interested to hear about the difference before and after. Maybe the springs are a bit stiffer than the standard ones.

That's how it has to be. The dampers are designed to absorb the vibrations of the suspension springs.

Uh, be careful that the stuff doesn't fly into your face while you're reattaching it. There's a lot of pressure in those springs. |
Tja, ja, kommt Zeit kommt Rat. Haste nicht immer Recht. / More haste, less speed.
I'll let the local mechanic handle it for now. He can install that part. I plan to do it myself at a rental workshop during my next oil change. I'll write something about any noticeable differences then (hopefully).

Hello guys,
So abgeholt is er. ProSure, here's the translation:
"st!"
It definitely drives noticeably better now, feeling tighter and more "responsive," and hopefully it has many more years left with me. During the inspection, I discovered a small patch of rust on the front, left fender, almost in the center at the top. And that's despite having full galvanization!
I still need to work on the rear suspension. Unfortunately, it's still sagging lower on the left side. So, it wasn't the uneven tire pressure (as mentioned above). I suspect it's either the spring or the rubber spring pads. But I think I can manage the replacement myself.

Hello,
In the self-help book by Etzold, the position of the rear spring or its ends is indicated in a diagram.
They should be aligned.
Is it in the direction of travel or at a 90-degree angle to it? I don't quite understand the drawing.
Thank you in advance, haithamina.

Does that help?
Bye.
