Hi, I'm trying to read the instrument cluster of a 2001 Golf IV 2.0l Cabrio to reset the service interval. It's worked well with our Lupo and T4 before. But with the Golf, I can't access address 17 at all. It's not readable! Am I doing something wrong? I've really searched, but I couldn't find anything about this.
Best regards, Mettzger.

Hi,

Which tool and software version are you using?
IMHO, there were often problems with the connector of the instrument cluster (loose connection).

Best regards, Rainer.

GOLF IV Convertible?
That's new to me!
While there was a Golf 3 Cabrio with a G4 appearance, the technology underneath the body panels was all G3, and the control units were not diagnosable.

I'm using VAG-COM 409.1, which came with my hobby kit.

Hi,

Okay, and what is your vehicle's model designation?
If the value is '1H', then goettmann is correct, and nothing can be done under address 17.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, that's a shame, but good to know. Thanks for the information!

I would say he should look for and find a '1E' instead of a '1H' in the vehicle type and in the chassis number.

Or try it with version 3.XX of the VAG Com software?

Hi.

That definitely isn't the reason.
Let's see if Mettzger has anything else to say about his vehicle type.
If the AI is not capable of making diagnoses, then it simply isn't.

Best regards, Rainer.

He doesn't need to say anything.

A Golf 4 Cabriolet is technically a Golf 3, and this applies to the instrument clusters as well.
Therefore, no diagnosis is possible, and the vehicle type is 1E, not 1H.
