LED Headlights: Bright & Powerful

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

While looking for more light, I measured the voltage at the lamp plug today. It's reading 11.6 volts. Is that normal, or is it sufficient?

It'll be alright.

You should probably clean the lenses, but it's difficult to reach them and requires special tools and carefully bent wire.

We once had a similar issue with a 1992 35i. The headlights would get a little dimmer each winter. Unlike you, the voltage was even lower. Because we were lazy and it was a winter car anyway, we installed two relays in each lamp and tapped the power directly from the battery. That made the lights bright again. However, later on, we also experienced other problems, and we discovered that the cable from the alternator to the battery was so corroded that we had to replace it.

How was it measured?
- with or without light source.
- motor on or off (and also speed?)
- What was the actual voltage at the battery terminals at the same time?

The voltage would be okay if:
1. engine off
2. measured with a light source.
