Dear fellow enthusiasts,

My acquaintance just told me again about the problems he's having with his A6, manufactured in October 2003, with a 2.5L TDI engine.

It's the third time in two years that his A6 has broken down.

The scenario has always been the same.
He drives normally in the morning and stops at the next (or even the one after next) intersection due to traffic. When releasing the gas pedal or braking, a strange noise can be heard coming from the transmission/engine area. When starting or accelerating, the engine doesn't rev up anymore.
After (repeatedly) turning the ignition on and off, he manages to get it running again.

And now for the kicker: There's no error in the memory!

Even the workshop is at a loss.

Is there a linkage between the Multitronic system (due to the noises) and the MSG (due to the lack of response to the 'throttle' potentiometer) such that a fault in the MT system effectively disables the MSG?

Do you have any ideas?

More detailed data (e.g., ICD codes, GKB codes) will be provided later.

Best regards,

K. Oldewurtel

This can happen when the valve body in the transmission gets dirty and the valves can no longer switch properly. There are already aftermarket valve bodies available for this model, based on the year of manufacture.
If the car is experiencing jerky starts, it could be due to an issue with the clutch adaptation, which might then trigger the control unit to enter a limp mode.
Converting to 7 clutch plates would usually be a solution. icon_smile.gif
The workshop could extract data from the measurement data blocks.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
