Hello everyone,

I really hope that I haven't missed any articles that already address this issue. And if I have, please be understanding.

Yesterday, I wanted to tackle the issue with the EGR valve because the intake passages around the valve on my 1Z engine, which I installed in a VW T3 about 160,000 kilometers ago, are quite clogged.
Unfortunately, while I can change the values and seemingly save them (i.e., restart the diagnostic process and read the modified value for the target air mass – 375mg/stroke – in measurement block 3), the old values are reset after turning off the engine and ignition. I have performed this procedure multiple times, and I believe I've done it correctly, but the values are not retained when restarting.

"Does anyone else experience this problem? Could it possibly be due to my control unit, which came from a test vehicle of Volkswagen?"

It would be great if you had a tip or could help narrow down the possible sources of error.

Thank you and best regards.

Carsti.

Hi,

How does your control unit report its status?

Does it have a black plastic casing or is it made entirely of aluminum?

Best regards,
Rudi

"... what exactly do you mean by 'how it reports'? The control unit has an aluminum housing."

I no longer believe that the problem lies with the control unit. This morning, I had the opportunity to test the same thing on a Passat 3BG. Unfortunately, the result was the same (unsuccessful). It is likely due to either incorrect software operation or a fault in the software itself. I borrowed all the hardware and software from a friend. It's version VAG303 (registered) and runs with a KKL USB interface. Nevertheless, something doesn't seem right.

Regards,

Carsti.

Once you select the control unit and the connection is established,
Does the part number (e.g., 028 906 021...) usually appear there?
If you have a prototype gearbox (transmission), or possibly something else.

The aluminum enclosure is already an MSA15 - it should actually be able to handle that.

Apart from that, adapting doesn't really bring much. Copper sheet with forgotten...
The central hole is significantly more effective, and the self-cleaning effect takes care of the rest over time.

That's most likely where your problem lies... you have a private message, please respond to it.

Only then does it continue... icon_twisted.gif

@RudiViewing profile: Rudi:

Unfortunately, I can't check again now because I had to return the diagnostic equipment. I checked it before, and it's not a standard version.

"When I installed the engine 8 years ago, I once tried removing that hose. Immediately, an error is reported (the light flashes), and when it's cold, the engine runs quite roughly. I thought that the solution involving adaptation values might offer a reasonable compromise."
I have a contact at Volkswagen who can lend me a 1551 tool. That should probably do the trick.

Greetings.

Carsti.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I can't check again now because I had to return the diagnostic equipment. I checked it before, and it's not a standard version.

Then the problem might be exactly there.
Metal sheet: When I installed the engine 8 years ago, I had already tried removing the hose once. It immediately triggers an error message (the light flashes) .
Sure you grabbed the right hose? Usually, you only find this problem with...
Disconnecting the solenoid valve creates an error entry, but there is no flashing indicator light.
because (at least with this generation of serial tax devices), there is no plausibility check performed.

...and if it's cold, the engine also runs quite roughly.

I thought that the solution with the adaptation values might represent a useful compromise.
I have another acquaintance at VW from whom I can borrow a 1551. With that, it will probably work out.

Not necessarily, because the steps involved are the same for both VAG-COM and the 1551.
Is your problem really the 'unusual' control unit?
The prototype devices typically have socketed EEPROMs. You could also ask someone for help.
(if necessary, find a friendly tuner near you) to have a set of original keys duplicated and the...
install once (e.g., 028 906 021 BF)

Best regards,
Rudi

The problem with the adaptation values is that it appears he doesn't have a legitimate VAG-COM license, and circumventing the license can lead to error messages that are very similar to the ones described here. However, since he hasn't yet provided proof of legitimacy, it's impossible to make a definitive statement; nevertheless, there's a high probability that the problem lies there.

In this context, and considering the circumstances already described, any discussion about the control unit is pointless.

P.S.: And once again, there's negative karma for telling the truth – thanks, hb2000.
