Hi,

Has anyone heard anything about whether Conti is planning a successor to the TS 780?

The TS790 was replaced by the TS810 this winter.

However, there have always been new models introduced in pairs in the compact and mid-size segments.

760/770 -> 780/790, but now 780/810.

I really need to get new tires now, but I'd rather not take the old 780s off if I'm getting new ones for next winter.

Who knows anything about this?

Logically, the designation "TS800" would make sense, and I can find some information about it online, although not from Conti.

The designation is likely already registered.

And here, it appears that a TS800 is also being discussed, if it's not a typo (image on the left) http://www.autoreview.ru/new_site/year2004/n24/conti/1.htm.

Thank you, Roger.

I also found the patents, but I couldn't find the Russian image.

If it were a printing error, it would be a very good one, because the tire model name is clearly visible on the tire!

So, it will be released in the winter of 2005 - why not now?

Why not now

Possible explanation:
Especially in the automotive sector, German industry often supplies foreign markets first – the domestic market is rightly considered to be very demanding.

That could be true.

On the other hand, it can also be the case from an economic perspective:
Germans are really into the excellent TS780. Why not make some money with it first, especially since the competition doesn't offer anything comparable that's in high demand? ...And first, clear out the existing stock.

Okay, I guess I'll just keep using my crappy Uniroyals for now, drifting with the G3 Variant really gets my adrenaline pumping. icon_evil.gif

Hi,

The driving characteristics of the Contis are excellent, but you can forget about their durability.
We had both TS780 and TS790 tires on A6 and Passat cars, and after two winters, we noticed cracks between the tread blocks on the tire surface.
According to the tire dealer (the same one who sold them previously), this is perfectly normal for tires. However, you should definitely not continue driving on these tires, as the cracks can expand due to moisture and freezing.

Interestingly, the Conti summer tires on the Passat (3 years old or 30,000 km driven) showed the same effect.

We've now moved on to Michelin tires; when it comes to summer tires, opinions are very divided regarding their performance in wet conditions, but the winter tires, at least on my A6, perform equally well and are also quieter than the Contis.

Regards,

Olli.

But you can forget about its durability.

I am unable to confirm this information based on data from multiple vehicles with different TS760, TS770, and TS790 configurations.
The TS760 didn't particularly like powerful vehicles or temperatures above 7°C, and it tended to become unstable. However, based on my experience, the 770 and especially the 790 are completely unaffected and last a very long time.

'Of course, it always depends on the tire pressure and driving style.'

I also have Michelin Alpin A2 tires for the winter. I think they are a great tire, with very good grip on snow, ice, and dry roads. However, my summer tires are significantly better in wet conditions.

That's exactly what happened to my Conti 790!
'They were 3.5 years old and had countless cracks, which, according to my tire dealer, made them unsafe for driving. I didn't want to drive them on the highway anymore. It's a known problem. However, if you use the tires for only two winters, it's probably not a problem.'
I complained to Continental extensively and received a credit!
I then got myself a set of Dunlop WinterSport M3 tires!
So far, I'm very, very satisfied! I recently used it in Austria, and it worked everywhere.
My brother uses these tires on his Golf 4, and my dad uses them on his A4, and they haven't had any issues either.

Furthermore, my brother could also discard his Conti EcoContact tires, as they were very cracked, although they still had good tread.
Best regards,

Have I already said in this thread that I consider my Dunlop WinterSport M3 tires to be the best? icon_biggrin.gif
They are incredibly quiet, perform well in all areas, and are not nearly as expensive as brands like Michelin.
(Maybe I'll get something from Dunlop for this.)

This year, you're starting your second winter, but I'll pay particular attention to any cracks when I change them, especially since these kinds of defects are becoming fashionable again with some brands. I would have expected to see this only on retreaded tires.

best regards
herwig

Yes, they are very quiet indeed!
But even on wet roads, I always have a particularly secure feeling while driving!

Okay Martin, forget about the Conti, save a few euros and get the M3!

Best regards,

I can't complain about Contis; I have the TS 810 tires, and they run wonderfully quietly and smoothly, and so far, they offer excellent grip.

Regarding the tire performance, it's interesting. Initially, I had a set of Pneumant 100 tires, then a set of re-grooved, non-brand winter tires, and now I have Conti TS790 tires.

The Pneumant tires were by far the quietest, and they also provided good contact with the road, although it felt like the TS790 tires had better grip. However, the retreaded tires were extremely loud and unbearable at 180 km/h, even though they were rated up to 190 km/h. Their grip was absolutely terrible; they would spin immediately even with the slightest acceleration.

Let's see what comes after the Contis.

How old are your Contis?
In the first two years, there should be very few cracks.
But then it usually starts.

If this is going to devolve into a general thread about winter tires:

Does anyone actually use Bridgestone LM-18 tires? I think mine are...
They have very little grip (at 2.0 bar). However, they performed better in some tests.
as Conti was cut off...
