Hello,

I would like to request an exploded diagram of the left rear door from one of you.
For the BMW 525tds Touring, E39, manufactured in 1999.

Specifically, the interior door paneling and the locking mechanism are of great interest.

The issue is that the door cannot be opened from either the inside or the outside. The central locking system is working perfectly. The external door handle moves, but the lock still doesn't open. Since the child safety lock is activated on the door, the door cannot be opened from the inside either. icon_twisted.gif

So, there's nothing left to do but completely remove the interior door panel with the door closed in order to access the locking mechanism. This won't be easy with the door closed because everything is quite cramped. To minimize the risk of damage, I would need an exploded diagram. Who can help?

I am also open to other suggestions and personal experiences.

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance.'

Best regards, Georg.

I received the drawings and the assembly/disassembly instructions from a helpful member of a forum.
Thank you again at this point. icon_wink.gif

It's Easter time, so it's time for the Easter door game...

I'll let you know how it went.

Here's the good news.

On Saturday, the interior door panel was finally removed, and the back door was unlocked.

Let me start by saying: without the explosion diagrams and assembly instructions, this would have been much more difficult...

To get a good angle at the back door, we removed the rear seat and the armrests. Then I removed the inner door handle and pried off the door panel at the front edge (where the overlap with the body is smallest).
The panel was carefully clipped into place from front to back, and no clips broke. Once the panel was removed, we unscrewed the airbag housing and detached the sealing film in the corner near the lock. This revealed the lock mechanism. We manipulated the lever with a screwdriver, and the door was open! Of course, the parental controls were immediately disabled, and then things continued as before...

Next, we disassembled the door handle following the instructions (it's not easy without them!) and located the worn area on the lever. Because the opening stroke became much smaller, the lock could no longer be unlocked from the outside. We increased the opening stroke by adding a spacer disc to the rope, which solved the problem.

Everything reassembled without any losses, and it's working well...

I really liked the design and the quality of the individual components of the BMW. Everything is well-thought-out and logically designed, and most importantly, there are no single-use parts like I had in my Golf. Therefore, the assembly and disassembly work was quite straightforward.

The solution to the problem wasn't as bad as anticipated.
And importantly, we didn't need to replace any parts.

Best regards,
Georg.
